A post I made on a VOYAGER thread inspired this.
Despite the fact that we still see a lot of prosthetics in scifi today, I feel something seems to be... missing, for lack of a better term. I almost feel like it has become easier to emote through such makeup effects now, since CGI has been much more easy to use on a regular basis than the Original Series, or even in the late part of the Berman era. Like a piece of the magic is missing... or at the very least, different.
Not that I am saying it is easy to do such a thing... on the contrary, I think it is a special kind of challenge that not many people can do effectively.
Which brings me to my purpose with this thread... giving appreciation to all those actors/actresses who donned prosthetics to bring to life characters that have fueled our imaginations for half a century.
I felt this thread belongs here, since it can encompass the entire franchise.
I have a few in mind... Jeffrey Combs, J.G. Hertzler, Ethan Phillips, Armin Shimerman, Rene Auberjonois. And some from other franchises... Andreas Katsulas from BABYLON 5 immediately springs to mind... Anthony Simcoe, Wayne Pygram, and several others on FARSCAPE. But I am going to start with someone a little unexpected.
Vaughn Armstrong... I think the man holds the record for how many different aliens he's played. He's been a Romulan, Vidiian, Kreetasian, Borg and former Borg, two different Cardassians, and at least three different Klingons that I can remember. And he did it all very, very well... precisely why he was called on so much. There was always just something... REAL about how he acted in those roles. I always appreciated it.
Who are your favorites? Any and all STAR TREK series... and any other show. There's so much over the decades that we can definitely keep this thread going for a long time. And we should.
