the only good thing is the phaser the rest is a bunch of outmoded crap that should never been approved but i guess they need to throw a bone to the ''visual canon'' crowd
I understand what's wrong with the Tricorder, but what is wrong with the communicator? It looks like an upgrade from the DSC design. It's more ergonomic, less blocky.

Also throwing a bone would be using the exact same designs from TOS. These are still notably different.

Looking at the tricorder it feels very unwieldy. Maybe seeing it in action but I don't like it.

The phaser looks usable, as does the communicator.

I've said before I really don't MIND the look, but they already have the Discovery props that should've been used first. Then again, there was that comment that Enterprise DID get the new uniforms and equipment from DSC S2E1 when they were walking down the corridors, so maybe this is also what they mean? Either way I do love the look of the Communicator and figured it right that it was the SNW one seen in that Discovery episode with the other Starfleet communicators.

I want the communicator, and maybe the phaser. I've not been a big fan of tricorders as a concept for decades - The Orville got it right by combining the communications and computing device into one prop. That's how we do it already, for chrissakes...

I love the chunky bakelite aesthetic of the tricorder - very fifties. Combined with the theremin flying saucer theme music in the trailer, I think they’ve made a conscious choice to channel some of that early space race style for the new series.

I guess not everyone will like that, but from what I’ve seen so far, a lot of thought has gone into this show on a design level. I think it’s going to look stunning.

Yeah, once we started seeing visuals from this show my excitement skyrocketed. The design work shows flair and imagination.

Been a long time since.

Tricorder by Casio!!!

Just kidding...

I would not mind playing with these toys, I can tell you.

Love how the tricorder flap is actually a component. It's a medical tricorder; is there a recess for the remote scanner?

This tricorder design(but also the communicator, unless they show that it has a different interface than the screen, e.g. voice or holographic) is a tragedytragically bad. If the equivalents of these devices in a series portraying the 22nd century and filmed 21 years earlier look more modern then something is categorically wrong here. It will be hard to find any suspension of disbelief in the scenes where this thing is used when the first thought that comes to mind is the electron tube device.
