Prop from STXI listed on eBay

Q: What proof do you have these are the actual ones used in film production.
A: Hello, None. My neighbor gave these to us He works in films supplying props cars surf boards bike etc.. these were the ones used in the new movie coming out I don’t think these bikes even sell in the US, Thanks
I'd be pretty skeptical since the seller couldn't offer more proof than that.

Cool, there will be magic in Star Trek.

They will have magic picture and magic noise coming from tiny magic DVD disks too.

It may or may not be really from the film but if it works as described it would be cool to own. If it is real then $80 total is probably a hell-of-a-bargian. If I were a collector, which I'm not, I'd be really sorry not to buy it then find out it was real cause once that is affirmed it's going to skyrocket in price.

The product itself is real enough. It's been on the market for a year or two already.

The video clip linked upthread by MisterPL was uploaded more than 18 months ago. Here's another, uploaded about 9 months ago. I have some vague recollection of hearing about something like this appearing in a movie, but I'm not sure that it was Star Trek and I don't recall a device like this showing up in any of the pictures we've seen.

The seller doesn't seem to have any way of authenticating that these were actually used in the movie, so what you're left with is a couple of used scooters which may work as originally advertised (I've never seen one in person, so I don't know) and which seem to be going for quite a bit less than the original retail price (80 pounds each, per the link I've included above.) That's about it, really.

The fact that he can't authenticate them and doesn't seem to really care that much is actually rather impressive. He'll sell them one way or another, after all.

The seller cannot spell the words "coming" or "really." I'm not impressed with the listing at all. It would come with a "buy it now" option for at least $1,000 if it had really been used in the movie. The diction used in the post also suggests that the seller does not speak English as his/her native language. When asked for proof that these were used in the film, he/she wrote:

"Hello, None. My neighbor gave these to us He works in films supplying props cars surf boards bike etc.. these were the ones used in the new movie coming..."

The use of the "Hello" and "in the new movie coming..." possibly suggests that he/she is from Germany or maybe eastern Europe.

One would think that if this was an actual prop used in the film, it would behoove the owner to wait until the film comes out so the piece actually has some meaning to potential collectors, and thus getting more money for the item.

As it is now, potential Star Trek collectors have no idea what the hell a "Magic Scooter" is.
