Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

Anyone else find it strange that the actors have been so up front about the characters they're playing already (who is an android, who might be untrustworthy, various character arcs, etc)?

I assumed Ridley and the studio would want to keep things as Top Secret as possible, and the actors would know better than to reveal stuff like that.

I guess we just have to hope these are things that are revealed very early on in the story, and aren't actually meant to be any kind of surprise...

JD, you phillistine! How dare you love the things I hate! Get off of the internet before I do something drastic, like picking apart your posts in a massive quote tree!

Learning to hate definately comes with age, not cynacism. I guess you could say it's an aquired distaste.

I couldn't disagree more. In years past I have hated many things, but with (relative) age I have discovered that I just don't have the time or energy to waste. I mean, I have seen some shit this year, but I don't bother going out of my way to go on about how much I despised it because I'd rather spend the free time I do have talking about and sharing my positive experiences and opinions.

Honestly, people who spend their time in front of their computer screens looking for topics they have a negative opinion on just baffle me.

Which is why I don't go to the movies to $upport it and them. They know who and what they are. They are slick operators with a thugish mentality. They make sloppy movies with no subtelty. They're Berman's polar opposite but with the same corperate mentality. Mediocrity has taken over Hollywood.

...what does that even have to do with what scnj just said? not being mean or anything, but I just don't get the connection you're making here.

There's nothing strange about this at all. Ridley Scott just knows that talking about the movie does not automatically ruin it. In fact, it can actually help build buzz about the movie.

If you ask me, JJ Abrams was bieng silly with all his uber secrecy surrounding Trek XI. Forcing the actors to wear trench coats when not filming to cover up their costumes, anyone reading the script had to sign an NDA and even then had to be accompanied by armed guard. That kind of shit is just stupid. And yes, I do know I'm exaggerating.

I don't understand what you're saying here. Are you complaining that people like Damon Lindelof are making movies with the sole intention of making money? Because that's always how this has worked.

As for mediocrity having taken over Hollywood, I very much beg to differ. The "good" to "bad" ratio has likely always been about the same, but when we look at films from the past, we only ever rewatch those that are good. The bad and mediocre ones are filtered out, creating the illusion that the past was a golden age of cinema and that there are more bad movies now than ever.

As for Prometheus, I don't understand how you can reach the conclusion that it's mediocre based on a minute long teaser that stylistically resembles one of the trailers for Alien. You don't like Lindelof, I get it, but judging the film as bad when you don't have a shred of evidence to back that up is ignorance.

Unless Ridley Scott goes on some drunken tirade in the next 6 months and insults a cop with racial slurs, I'm checking this one out.

The Ridley Scott name above the title alone sold it for me.

Without his involvement, I'd most likely would pass on it.

What I'm saying is a cabal does not have to deal with quality. Like chinese food resteraunts being in cahoots with each other over price and quality. I hope I'm wrong, but this seems like a freelance wash.
