Project: Potemkin, a Star Trek Fan Film

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Thanks!

Traverse rod system was an abject failure. Turns out that we need more space than we have on the left side -- the door opens up to the wall itself. No room for the pulleys and apparatus. Still haven't given up on it in the long run; just won't have it for "The Void."

The ready room will be complete on Tuesday, and we'll be posting pics on our website that evening.

Going to check with the electronics guy tomorrow and find out the status of our red alert light and viewscreen chase lights.

At work now on replacing cast members who are not available for this episode. Interested folks should contact us!

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

The ready room is practically finished. I've updated our website with this page detailing the decoration of the set: http://www.projectpotemkin.com/raising_the_ready_room_3.htm. We still have to add a couple of things and reframe the "space window."

Bill Walker is hard at work on "Care for a Lift?" and is apparently halfway through the initial edit. Bill is completely responsible for this vignette. He's also working on an engineering mini-set for the chief engineer (who is played by Bill) and trying to obtain one of the anti-rad engineering suits.

Obtaining new cast for "The Void" as needed. Interested parties in Southwest Georgia should contact us. We have a few openings due to one of our cast getting married and moving to New York, and a couple of others have scheduling conflicts.

Thanks to LCARS 24 (and DEIF) for the MSD for the ready room. Still looking for a food servitor graphic. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Received word from Ralph Miller today. Soundtrack is complete. We should have "The Old Guys" on-line by next weekend!

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Still doing a little bit of tweaking. I think we're 99.4% there. Definitely going to wait until Saturday, I believe, before posting it to the web via YouTube. Is Pauley79 still down?

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Really looking forward to Saturday now. I just tried Pauley79 for the first time in a long time because I had it bookmarked, and it came up that it could not find the server.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Glad to hear you're looking forward to Saturday. Everyone at Project: Potemkin is as well.

Hopefully Pauley79's site will be back soon. I'd like to find a good place to put a DVD quality file for downloading.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Looking like it's going to be Saturday evening. We'll create a new thread here announcing its posting when available.

Bill Walker is already hard at work on the second vignette. It should be available by Christmas. It's a little comedy we used to test the second unit camera.

Filming on "The Void" will begin next week at 7pm. We hope to have at least the teaser shot and opening montage shot by Thursday evening. Act I on Friday. Act II & III on Saturday. Epilogue on Monday. All cast members have been confirmed. Now casting a few others and our CMO.

Bill Walker is also working on creating his Engine Room for our production. It will be partially green screen and partially physical set.

Once filming is complete for "The Void," we also intend to shoot a 2 min "horror" short vignette for possible release prior to "The Void."

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Our first vignette is now on-line at our YouTube channel. There's another thread with the official announcement and link.

Our second vignette is now in post-production. "Care for a Lift?" will be released just prior to Christmas.

We've added two new cast members, one who will serve as our helmsman, the other who will serve as our CMO. Official announcements will be made in a few days.

Hope everyone enjoys "The Old Guys."

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Thursday evening, Friday evening, and all day Saturday, the cast and crew of Project: Potemkin worked diligently on the filming of "The Void," our first full-length episode. We're pretty much halfway through the filming, and it's going well. We'll have a full report on our website in the next few days, including photos from the production, new cast photos, and other information.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Randy:

Enjoyed working on it. Can't wait to see the pics and also can't wait to finish this ep off.

Then on to the next one. :)

Regards,

Doug

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Glad you enjoyed it! I did, too, but really was glad we opted not to film on Sunday. Going to shoot the readyroom scenes tonight.

Have posted pictures and a Filming "The Void" update on the website with what few pictures turned out. Thought I had taken more, but the flash must not have gone off on some.

We should finish up the shoot December 16-18. If we need to do any pick ups, we'll definitely be in good shape.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

From Bill Walker (regarding the upcoming "Care for a Lift?"):

"Lift" is coming along, slowly but nicely. I have figured out how to get AfterEffects CS5 to automatically (well, semi-automatically anyway) generate the masks I need to composite in the turbolift map. That will speed things up. I have several more shots finished, including one using the auto-rotoscoping. I want to get several more done during the break. I'm also getting ready to generate some of the opening animation. I'm going to re-use a little of the animation from "The Old Guys" to save some time (the advantage of having a library of stock footage, don'cha know...). I'll generate some stills and assemble placeholders so I can send a video to Tony Lunn to work on music while I'm finishing the animations. A pre-Christmas target still looks very realistic.

Meanwhile we'll probably shoot a few more videos over the coming months for release in 2011.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

Our editor, Tom Scott, has now received the first four DV tapes safely. Hopefully we'll be able to see some footage in the coming week.

Meanwhile, work continues on "Care for a Lift?" Bill Walker is wearing a lot of hats for that production. We hope this episode will be ready for a Christmas debut!

Filming on "The Void" will continue in less than three weeks.

Work has begun on developing a digital Sickbay. Although this digital set will not be used often, it'll be nice to have. Construction for a small green screen area is slated t begin after Christmas.

Lastly, Bob Reed is working on the DVD download page, and it looks awesome. Hope to have this feature implemented very soon!

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

This is just in from Bill Walker, who is serving as producer for "Care for a Lift?":
One more FX sequence, and the second half of the live action will be complete. I still have a number of shots in the first half, including one that needs re-doing, but the auto-rotoscoping is really allowing me to crank 'em out! :-) Once all the turbolift map FX are complete, I'll get the turbolift doors to open with a composite, and that will complete the live action footage! I'm coming along on the starbase interior model as well -- it will be ready for animation in a few days. I'm going to simplify the animation for time's sake, but it will still be quite nice.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

We are transitioning our website today; viewers/visitors may suffer proper access today and tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience, but it'll be worth the result. Once complete, you'll see that Bob Reed has done an excellent job redesigning the website for us.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

ENTERPRISE takes place in an alternate universe? Um...what are you talking about? No it doesn't.

Re: New Star Trek Fan Film

I'd rather not derail this thread with a discussion of Enterprise. Suffice it to say we do not consider Enterprise to be a part of the Project: Potemkin universe.
