Me too. I wouldn't be surprised if they find a way to have him show up, even if it's only to to announce an award. Imagine him coming up to announce the award for special effects.
"Rocky here at Oscars. Amaze Amaze Amaze! So many like Grace! So many watch Rocky question!? Fist my bump! Fist my bump! Rocky sorry Grace not here. He on Erid."

I get the comparison but it's actually very different. And I'm not sure which one has the stronger argument as a "performance". Rocky is more of a single performance but it's a such a different skill. Gollum is closer to straight forward "acting" but the performance then went through MANY other artists to realize the final Gollum.
Someone once gave Dustin Hoffman a hard time by saying "I don't have to listen to anyone who lost Best Actor to John Wayne." I can't imagine any on screen performance that is going to get outvoted by a puppet of a rock.
Actors have won Oscars for far less screentime and far less involvement in the film than Rocky has though. Can't imagine how other actors felt losing out to Beatrice Straight and her sub six minute performance in Network! 
Rocky was a team effort, but Ortiz one of the puppetry team and did the voice.
It'd be a hard sell but people have really loved the film so never say never...

Well, stranger things have happened. And I wouldn't underestimate Rocky winning people over I guess I'm an optimist, but maybe this movie could trigger the Academy to start looking a little deeper into categories that they've neglected in the past.

Well, the Oscars have been thinking about adding a Most Popular category for a while now, bowing to the general perception that they are a bit artistically elitist and often enough give awards to movies that have not been widely seen by the majority of movie audiences. The Golden Globes already have such a category.
For me it's a fig leaf as the Oscars, with few exveptions mentioned, have been snubbing Fantasy and Sci Fi movies on the regular giving the impression they are not worthy of consideration or somehow inferior to regular drama movies. I recently watched a reaction video for Arrival and at least it was nominated for more than the technical awards but still didn't win any of the major categories. I just checked IMDB for Arrival and while an IMDB rating is in no way a true representation of the actual quality of something it is noticeable that it sits at a respectable 7.9 while the Oscar winner for Best Picture that year is Moonlight with a 7.4.
I think Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller are locks for nominations. The movie is 100% getting nominations for best score and editing and visual effects and best picture.
The one I want the most is Best Adapted Screenplay because that was one of the best adaptations I've ever seen.
I would wholeheartedly second this.
I think they also have to consider how well the movie has done at the box-office. And 575 million worldwide is not nothing. It's done well enough that they've decided to extend the theatrical run. It's done extremely well for Amazon and MGM.
For me personally box office success or failure is not a good indicator about the quality of a movie. The Avatar movies got progressively worse yet made hundreds of millions, the first one made several billions.
The Disney Star Wars Trilogy is beyond awful, yet they were profitable.
And then there's the thousands of movies that flopped or underperformed yet are considered very good movies.
As i said this is an attempt at placating general movie audiences to toss them an award so they can say we are not elitist but in reality nothing ( or very little) is changing and a certain type of movie is just preferrable when it comes to awards.
I never said it was, but I never expected the movie do do nearly as well as it has. Instead it feels like it's been a runaway success.
And at least it's been turning heads. As an original IP, that's something.

Completeley agree and fortunately it shows that having a good story and great performances still means something over mindless special effects onslaughts and constant action scenes.
