Haven't read the book, but watching the trailer, something occurred to me. Gosling's character is named Grace. Is this meant to be some sort of pun? Project Hail Mary, full of Grace?

Could be, but the book doesn't make that connection. His full name is Ryland Grace. The author might have purposefully chosen the name for that connection though it's never implied.
I was spoiled about this novel after reading a brilliant review by a student. I really need to read the book before seeing the movie because it sounds excellent.
It is AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE! Anyone who's read the book will get this reference, but it truly is an excellent book, and in fact I think I prefer it to The Martian. It is such a cool story that I've never seen done before.
I figured it was a marketing decision but Weir raises a good point that Rocky's role is a core element of the novel so there isn't much point in holding him back.
Well, I respect Andy Weir's decision, but it could also be easily argued that it's the precise reason why such an important character not be revealed too early, namely because it offers such a unique scenario that could easily spoiled by showing his presence.
