Project Code Name "W2"

I'm not sure how I would alter his beard line, to use your specific example, in a way that wouldn't look like I was just trying to come up a funky beard line and be more distracting than anything else. Like the guy in the Hunger Games movie with the insanely ornate beard trimming; I can't even remember most of what he said or did in that movie because I couldn't stop staring at his freakin' beard.

I don't know, I'll give it some further thought and see what shakes out.

I don't see how that's any more distracting that differently shaped ears and eyebrows...or has Star Trek trained us to ignore forehead and ear weirdness? :)

I like the look of that wrapped tunic and undershirt. When I become an eccentric millionaire, I'm going to get my personal tailor to style up a selection of clothes that look like that.

Time for some creature design work. Here's an example of a nasty little tree dweller that hunts in packs:

Hind legs could probably be bigger (or relegated to grasping claws) to assist it in grabbing and hanging, but a neat design in any case.

So I was doing some more work on the character sketch today and it occurred to me that the warm color scheme was not very appropriate to the chill and rather harsh environment in which much of the story takes place. The character's clothing is designed to protect him from the cold, but the reds and browns of the background make it look more like he just strode in out of a desert sand storm. Just for the sake of experimentation, I thought I'd try some blues and grays and swirling snowflakes instead:

I think I prefer this over the previous version but I could use some unbiased opinions to help me decide for sure.

By the way, the emblems on the back of the gloves is just a placeholder. It's fairly significant to the story and the design has not been finalized yet.

Yeah, I think if cold is the idea you're shooting for, this is an improvement. With the warmer background, I was totally reading his costume as more of a cowboy with a duster kinda look. And I supposed his ... What do you call it? Shirt wrappings? I imagined those as being lighter weight cotton or linen like something Obi-Wan Kenobi might have worn.

I think the warm look was further enforced for me by the second illustration of the nasty little arboreal fellow with the teeny feet. He looks to be loving life in a jungle type environment and I guess I just assumed the two characters might be in similar areas...

It worked as a warmer image, but if you're going for cold than this is definitely it.

The tree swinging predator does, indeed, live in a warmer jungle-like environment. Some parts of the planet are more temperate than others.
