Project: Arielle, TOS-era science vessel concept

Another side project for me is a TOS-era science vessel design utilizing some components I'm currently using for my ships of this timeframe. Still a work-in-progress, here are a few rough Sketchup model shots of the Arielle:

The dome is most likely a long range sensor pod as this is a science/research vessel.

Sexy looking ship. It has a bit of the Normandy of Mass Effect and a bit of Star Trek, which is lovely. The way you presented the main hull makes a lot for it. Congrats.

What is you tried a voyage style ellipse saucer made to look TOS so that it tapers off at the back instead of a spade? It just doesn't feel trek enough IMO with that primary hull.

Possibly. I don't to rip off off Voyager either. The aft end needs quite a bit of work. The "windshield" needs much more refinement. In other words, it's still garbage.

I don't think using an elliptical saucer would rip off Voyager any more than using a circular one on your Sentinel rips off TOS or a wedge cutout on your Shangri-la rips off Enterprise's Intrepid class. In all three cases, the inclusion of a single (albeit major) feature doesn't negate that the rest of the ship is different and the overall asthetic as a whole is still unique. In any case, I look forward to seeing what you do with this class.

I really like this, looks more utilitarian than the larger starships (although I would argue thats the overall style of the TOS era) and don't see Voyager in the shape at all, if anything else I am seeing a little of the Planet Express Ship.

I can't wait to see where you go with this, is the "windshield" actually the bridge or some other area? How big a ship is this?
