Programming TV Channels

Does anyone know of a website or something where I can look at a listing of all the channels and their numbers that are broadcast (in the air, not cable) in my local area?

I need to program my TV, which requires adjusting the antenna for each channel - it makes it impossible to program them if I don't know whether a channel exists on a certain # (otherwise, I spend 20 minutes fiddling with the antenna on each channel #, not knowing if there's anything to pick up). Furthermore, I'm only interested in a few specific channels anyway, so that could save me a lot of time too.

I'd google it, but I don't know what the terminology is (what is over-the-air, non cable TV called).

Zap2It contains TV listings broken out by over the air and cable. Just enter your zip code and make sure to select "Local Broadcast (Antenna)".

The channels with .1, .2, etc. after them are HD channels.

I found that Wikipedia was helpful with Channel listings for the UK so I found something similar for the US here that lists Over the air networks and has links at the bottom where one leads to here thats shows TV stations by State.

If you're in the US,

www.tvguide.com

has a channel guide you can access. If you're looking for stuff you can pick up with an antenna instead of cable or satellite, you'll want to select the "broadcast" option on the listings setup page there.



That being said, you might want to think about how much antenna you have and what you can (or can't) pick up with it. For that kind of information, see:

www.antennaweb.org

Don't bother with the name or email fields, but if you fill in the address and zip, it will tell you what type of antenna will be suitable for the stations listed there. The "view street level map" button will show you the directions to the various stations to help you aim your antenna.
