Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I don't understand the hatred of product placement in movies personally. Is it hard to believe this car would have a Nokia phone installed or that ring-tones may be similar in the future? Not for me. I think it would be weird if there was a character saying something like "let's get on board our Mitsubishi shuttle-craft", but the type of product placement used in this movie bugs me not at all.

At least Nokia and Bud paid for it, and now when people see Nokia or drink Budweiser, they might be thinking Star Trek in the back of thier minds.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

My favourite product placement was the Chevrolet.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Um, yeah, they destroyed it! I bet his uncle was pretty angry

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

The Nokia one was terrible, at least the bud one fitted in.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

People don't like the distraction. Even in present-day settings they are distracting, even if they are entirely plausible.

Why are they distracting? This doesn't make sense to me. Walking down the street from my house to the bus stop I see products all around. People walking by my office always see Coca-Cola. Do they say "oh wow that's distracting, your office is full of product placement." Doubtful. So if this doesn't bother them in real life, why does it bother them in movies? I guess I just don't follow it because it never bugged me as long as it was a realistic use of the product.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Cause in a movie, they mostly focus in on it, when there isn't any focus on it, like in the background, that's fine, but when they put it up front with the obvious intent to make its presence known, that is distracting

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I vote for the "neither" option as well. Product placement in Star Trek just feels wrong. While I agree that the Budweiser is at least plausible, why did they have to pick that particular beer? (or beer flavoured water I should say). They could have picked a better beer at least.

I bet Budweiser was the only company willing to pay, besides it seems like the kind of beer you'd find in a midwestern hick town.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Haven't seen the movie yet, but PLEASE don't tell me something rings like a Nokia phone.

GAH!

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

They were both kinda cool--or at least tolerable...

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

My favorite was the Jack Daniels reference.

I personally loathe all the advertising we're bombarded with on a daily basis.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I liked that they had the good sense to dispense with the placements during early scenes and didn't throw them in at a distracting (and probably far more lucrative) juncture.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I've never seen a movie in which product placement worked. Even if I see someone drinking Coke, I immediately think product placement. It is always a distraction.

I'm more distracted when a character drinks Yummy Tummy Cola while at a New York Cheetahs game than if he or she is drinking Budweiser at a New York Jets game.

It's when James Bond lingers on his brand name GPS for way too long even though his destination is DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HIM where it gets to be distracting.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Nokia. It was done so hilariously. Instead of just showing the phone to the audience descreetly (while anyone realizes its product placement) they just used it to create a funny scene there. It was funny. I laughed.

Yeah they should do more of that in sequels. Apple could pay them to have a display with a BSOD, shit like that. It wouldn't be distracting or anything.

No option for Cardassian Sunrise? or Levi Jeans? C'mon now :)
