Re: What was your favourite product placement?

Nokia or Bud?
Neither. I didn't notice the Budweiser one. The Nokia one seemed out of place, though thankfully subtle for a product placement. If it had gone the I, Robot route of having the main character do a commercial, it would have sucked!

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

The Budweiser one was passable, part of a joke line, and blink-and-you'll-miss-it. It at least fitted in with the scene - and was immediately followed by an appropriately fanwanky Trek reference :D . The Nokia one was far too blatant, and tore me out of what had been a very enjoyable start to the film.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

All I know is that I'm glad I didn't see a Ford or Dodge truck in the movie

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Yeah, between the product placement and McCoy's wife cleaning him out in the divorce, this Federation isn't exactly the communist utopia that we were led to believe. (Of course, the fact that the narrative, even in the original timeline, always strays from pure communism may just demonstrate how impractical the whole system is.)

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

When the nokia "phone" rang some people in my theater groaned.

but I liked it better than a Bud classic.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

the nokia ring tone was bad, they could have kept the text nokia but dissed the ring tone, that was a bit invasive and out of place

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

My showing got a huge laugh out of the Nokia thing. It was so annoying it was funny.

Trek and Product Placement

How did others feel about the product placement and use of present-day music in this new movie?

Did you like that Kirk's Corvette had a Nokia phone device in it? Complete with the Nokia rington and the display even saying "Nokia.com."

Uhura ordering a Budweiser?

The Beastie Boys playing in the bar?

Re: Trek and Product Placement

Having "NOKIA" on the display is unnecessary to make the phone seem "dated". I mean, does your iPhone always have "Apple" in huge letters on top of the screen? Of course, not doing it would mean less money.. tough decision.

Re: Trek and Product Placement

While its not ideal, its a lot more realistic then say, Archer when asked what to drink in a bar... "I'll have a beer"... no kidding which kind?

Does anyone complain about Kirk ordering a Michelob in IV?

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

The Nokia things was funny since it was so out of place, it set up the Beastie Boys track well.

My favorite ad placement was for Slusho.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I hate everything about this invasive product placement.

Yea, how else do you punish the dude for the divorce? (whether it's his fault or not; although probably was his from the swigs he took from that flask) That'd kinda blow, cheat on your wife what's the consequences? "Bye honey, I'll go grab me another free home!":D

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

Where is the 'Neither' option?

The Nokia one made me cringe, while at least the Budweiser thing was plausible.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I've never seen a movie in which product placement worked. Even if I see someone drinking Coke, I immediately think product placement. It is always a distraction.

Re: Which was your favourite product placement?

I don't understand the hatred of product placement in movies personally. Is it hard to believe this car would have a Nokia phone installed or that ring-tones may be similar in the future? Not for me. I think it would be weird if there was a character saying something like "let's get on board our Mitsubishi shuttle-craft", but the type of product placement used in this movie bugs me not at all.

People don't like the distraction. Even in present-day settings they are distracting, even if they are entirely plausible.
