Problem with YouTube and Ubuntu

Hi, hope this isn't supposed to go into a different sub-forum.

So, a few weeks back I updated my Ubuntu to the current version 12.10. Ever since, I've had a problem with YouTube videos. Not all of them, but quite a few. They're played in the wrong colour tone. Like, a caucasian's skin colour is blue instead of what it's supposed to be.

Anybody knowing the cause of this, and what to do about it, I'd really appreciate the help.

I think this would be better in Science & Technology. However, I'm not sure anyone can really help you here. Only few posters on here seem to use Linux at all. I'm on Ubuntu but I haven't upgraded and haven't experienced any problems.
I hope this doesn't sound condescending, but have you tried googling or asking in a Ubuntu forum (e.g. ubuntuusers.de)? I think your chances of finding a solution there are much higher than here.

Don't get encouraged by possible answers that might sound a little brusque. They can still be helpful.

It's likely your hardware acceleration. I had the same problem when I used my onboard video before switching to a video card. Go into your settings and uncheck the "hardware acceleration" box.

It might also help to reinstall flash. Ubuntu and flash don't seem to like one another very much.

The problems I was having with graphics when I installed 12.10 were because i wasn't using the right graphics driver. Ubuntu knew to install nvidia drivers, but not to actually use one of them until I told it to. Although, I don't remember how to do that. Is it just YouTube, or all video? Try playing an .mp4 or .avi or something. If it's the video driver, those probably won't play right either.

This might just be it. I actually tried to do that, and sure enough, there was the check in the "hardware acceleration" box. But now, I'm faced with a problem even more odd; I can't uncheck the box. In fact, I can't click on anything in the settings window.

Yeah, this might help. Thanks for the tip.

No, it's just YouTube. Other video files, or even other streaming sites, are all fine.

Hmm. It might be your drivers preventing that. Go to your control panel, choose "Admin" and "System Drivers" or "System Properties" depending on which version of Ubuntu you have. There should be an option to select or update proprietary drivers. Activate the video driver if it's there.

If it isn't there, then the problem is still flash. Uninstalling and reinstalling flash might solve it.

Good luck!
