Problem with running judgement rites game

Roxana

Hello I'm a new user! And not particularly au fait with computers so apologies if this question is really stupid.

I'm having problems trying to run the Judgement Rites game. I run Windows XP and downloaded it as a zip file. It unzips fine and what it calls "setup.exe" seems to work ok however when I try to run the executable to play the game it brings up this message:

"Internal error: You must have a minimum of 1MB of EMS memory to run this game. Game aborted..."

I don't know what this means and haven't been able to find out anywhere so far. I tried changing the compatibility on the properties tab but now I'm stumped so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you so much, I now have a game that works!!!

But no sound (?) did I install it (the game) wrongly or something?

Also, I need to go and find some instructions for this game, as at the moment I've reached the point of (I presume) steering the Enterprise aimlessly through space.

I have a CD of that and will load in up in XP tonight to see what's up. VDM sound is the program which is very good for getting sound to work in DOS. Also when I have problems like this, I find if I do a search in yahoo or google like "trek judgement rites XP" I'll find what I need. That's what I did for Final Unity and couldn't have played it without the help.
I don't know if you know this, but if you can find a CD of 25th Anniversary or its sequel Judgement Rites, those versions have full voice acting from the whole TOS casts. Shatner is a bit terse but Nimoy and D.Kelley are fantastic and sound perfectly in character. I can't imagine playing those games without the voice acting. :)

Installed it and ran in a "DOSBox" program. Only hitch was in matching the port, IRQ, and DMA settings from the Interplay setup with that in the DOSBox. For some reason, the game was calling for and IRQ not available in DOSBox. What a gem this game is. The 320x200 is brutal but the sound is surprisingly good!
I hope you are successful in getting the sound up and running. If you were in the US I'd lend you my CD for the voice acting, but I'll bet you can find one via ebay and such if you are so motivated....have fun....

Thanks for the hint. The actors' voices were what I wanted too. I'll take a look for the CD!

I need to find where places are on the star map too as I keep passing the romulan neutral zone. Ha ha.

Just starting to get to grips with the game (am trying to avoid cheats/walkthroughs as much as possible). But wow, Spock full face looks like a monkey :(

Enjoying it though! For some reason, it reminds me of Maniac Mansion :rommie:

My lady, please look at my avatar..I often play this game for relaxation..and to beat my personal best score..

graphics, state of the art 1991 after all..

I've found if I squint the graphics look much better ;) spock might even have a mouth!

It's certainly keeping me amused/confused I stayed up till 2 am last night playing it!

I did wonder if that was your usual avatar or if you'd just changed it because of the question! :rommie:

Come to think of it, I don't think I played 25th Anniversary with the voice work, since I still have it on 3 1/2" floppies, which I don't think has the voice track. I may be doing an ebay hunt myself.
These games, as well as Final Unity, are probably the best candidates for remakes ever.

As far as it goes, 25th and Judgement rites are the best TOS games released, there are conversions out there, such as the Starbase 11 mod for Star Trek Voyager Elite Force and several Starfleet Command mods as well..but the best cancelled Star Trek game is TOS based..

Starbase 11 info

Starfleet Command Mods
Secret of Vulcan Fury info

Hope this helps.. oh and this avatar has been mine ever since I won an avatar contest a few months ago... ;)

Well, I've just been relieved of my command by Admiral Cain :( ... need to redo Episode 2. I still vow to not look at the cheat pages!

I'll check out those games thanks. Avatar contest?
