Problem with new story

Oh geez, the "purist" is coming out. ahh damn you all for doing this to me..:scream: ..just kidding. But it Space Seed they mention that Kahn was one of the last tyranical leaders of earth in the 1990's. Is it me, or did they leave that part out. Also isnt this kahn a little to young *not including time in cryo* to be a ruler of anything. In the movie, atleast from what I got he was just a super soldier.

They did mention that the cryo-pods were 300 years old, but there was no mention of Khan's historical activities.

Also, he was being very protective of his frozen compatriots, so he was apparently their ruler at least.

He was the leader for sure, but it just does not make sense that he was thawed out for any reason no matter the military gain. If kahns history was known to those who woke him up, Im pretty sure they would have kept closer tabs on him, and kept him locked up under very heavy security.

The fact that he walked free amongst everyone else is proof that he was nothing more than an enhanced soldier and not the leader, or prince the original charecter was.

Edit- it doesnt take away from the movie.. but its just something that popped into my head and bothered me a bit

Khan's backstory was in there. Spock accuses Khan of having had goals including "the extermination of all those not considered superior" (a reference to The Eugenics Wars novels, I suspect) when Khan takes over the Vengeance. Khan in the brig and Admiral Marcus give slightly different versions of Khan's exile.

I was very suprised to hear McCoy say that they cryo pods were "300 years old" - I'd have expected them to bump Khan's era up past our present. They went above and beyond to keep continuity with the old, IMO.

He's a genetically engineered superman, immune to radiation and disease. Ageing is for mere mortals.

They didn't really say that much of what Khan had done. Not sure if I like that, knowing that he ruled an ampire and was exiled added to the cahracter for me.

I think Admiral Marcus' choice of Khan reflects poorly on the admiral, for it reveals what he believes about his civilization. He believes that the Federation is incapable of being savage, is incapable on taking a species that the admiral has a low opinion of. I took from the film that the admiral was prejudiced against the Klingons, that he saw them as being inferior to the Federation. The Klingon behavior revealed them to be anything other than what the admiral believed. Would it have helped the film if we had actually seen one of the Klingon attacks on colonies and ships so that we could be given the opportunity to be sympathetic with the admiral?

I felt that the characters of Spock and Kirk failed in their duties by not researching the historical records and truth-checking what they were being told. And, certainly, there must have been medical records on these "super people".

Maybe this Khan himself is from an alternate timeline from the one depicted in "Space Seed."

After all, in the "Voyager" episode "Future's End," Henry Starling used future technology to become a wealthy inventor in the 20th century, and the Voyager crew traveled to 1996, which seemed perfectly pleasant with no signs of a Eugenics War going on.

So maybe Khan of this new movie is from that Henry Starling timeline, with a much different history from that of the Khan from the TOS timeline.

The timeline has been altered numerous times over the past three centuries, before Nero and Spock ever showed up to alter the timeline one more time.

Before the last Trek movie, this timeline has been visited by Janeway and Captain Braxton in the 20th century, the Borg and Picard in the 21st century, Daniels and his Temporal Cold War opponents in the 22nd century, and finally Nero and Spock in the 23rd century.

So even before Khan's birth, he was already in an alternate timeline created by Henry Starling using Captain Braxton's timeship technology. Nothing about his life would necessarily be the same as the Khan depicted in TOS before any of these alternate timelines started.

Perhaps when Spock Prime followed Nero into this new movie's timeline, it was not their own history they went to, but one of the many alternate timelines that were created over the past four centuries.

As seen in TNG's "Parallels," multiple timelines with divergent histories exist simultaneously, in addition to the Mirror Universe, all interconnected to each other at different points in time.

I dont have a problem with the crew not knowing him, it took them a while to work out who he was the first time they found him as like this time he introduced himself simply as Khan.

As for Kirk then not knowing who he was this time around its possible this Kirk wasnt as interested in that part of history and instead day-dreamed through those lessons at school.

By the time they find out hes not John Harrison they have the pressing matter of 72 frozen men and women in torpedoes and an Admiral who sent them to cover up his mistakes and die in the process to worry about. Not as much time for Google and its possible there are numerous 'Khan's' in the computer if Section 31 didnt remove any reference to him.
