Prince William officially engaged to Kate Middleton

Yay.

The average UK person has a lot more important things to think about these days, especially with all the spending cuts.

Better question: How long do you think the marriage will last? I give it two years when it'll end due to a vicious and naughty sex scandal.

Psh. His family still owes my family an apology.

Other than that, Harry seems like an alright guy.

Indeed we do. It means 'not a member of the royal family' and seems mostly to apply to those of the Upper Class (the last dregs of our aristocracy) but not to the other sixty million of us.

Technically we're still subjects of Her Britannic Majesty (as the passports put it) but since the 1980s we are proud citizens of the wonderful United Kingdom. Hip hip hooray!
(Hope you are getting the sarcasm here)

Really, its a stupid non-story and something that makes me wish that Cromwell had done a better job at this 'republic' thing...

I clicked on the thread, and then thought; "Wait, why do I give a fuck?" Then realized; "Oh yeah, I don't." And then I thought; "What should I have for dinner?" And then I decided; "Chicken breast, broccoli, baked potato and chocolate milk." Then I thought; "You should care about that about as much as you care about the impending nuptials of some royal douche."

Awesome. Only on TrekBBS could I click a link about some inbred douchebag getting engaged, and come away with a solid idea for dinner. :techman:

I should start a thread about what T'Baio is having for dinner and see if a discussion about Prince William breaks out.

You three win the internet for the week.

Seriously though, they still use the term "Commoner" over there?

Well we do have a House of Commons representing the people, which kind of makes it extra specially ironic that the term is usually used now to refer to someone (like Kate) who is rich, privileged and upper class, just not actually of noble/royal blood. The term is rarely used to refer to the average peasant these days. But technically, it is the correct term, later derogatory connotations aside.

How fortunate that the family actually likes Kate. Do you think they would allow William to marry, or even date, her if they didn't?
