And the UK, it has already been aired here.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Yes, but law abiding US citizens who do not travel, are only just now finding themselves with access to Primeval New World.

Cancelled or not, our friends here still have 12 episodes left unseen to view over the next 12 weeks as if these video periodicals were brand new vital virgin unsullied programming that filth like me as well as every one in Canada has not already pawed and defiled.

If they have a multi-regional DVD player then they would have been able to purchase the DVDs from the UK (as they were released there on April 1). That is how I got to view the series as it hasn't aired on TV here.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

It sounds legal, but there's a still a strong chance that the pigs will stick you in a coop for bootlegging because of that multizone DVD player Chicken.

Zones were put in place for a very good reason.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

I'm a fan of the original UK series.

Why is it that American versions of British shows are almost always rubbish? (Yes I know it's actually Canadian, but the point still stands.)

The Canadian version is not of significantly lower quality than the British version, which was exceedingly naff anyway.

It's a not entirely boring way to throw away an hour of your life. That's about the best I could say for either version.

It seems I am lucky to live in Australia. Our Copyright Amendment Act 2006 allows for the modification of DVD players to enable them to play DVDs from different countries so it is quite legal for me to own a nultiregional DVD player and to buy DVDs from any region that I want to. I didn't realise that the law in the USA was different.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

I was making dinner almost an hour ago, when the thought struck me: "frakk! She's from Oz!" which completely ruined my 40 seconds worth of research to back up my bluster.

Truthfully I just wanted to go ape on the farm metaphors.

You have to wonder that if multizone players were legal (obviously not an enforced law) in the US and everywhere else that TPTB could just dispense with Zones entirely and make all the dvds in one factory.

I was tinkering with the DVD drive in my computer a while back and it seems that, the programming limitations in the DVD drive allows me to chose the DVD Zone and then I am am only allowed to change it four times before the dvd drive locks and I'm stuck with my final choice.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

You can get software that basically changes the region without affecting the drive region at all.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

I just went into a shop and said I want a multi region DVD recorder/player. Worked out well for me...

Mind you, I've moved up to Bluray now. Can you get multi region Bluray players ?

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Indeed you can, they tend to be more difficult to get hold of though. But to be honest a lot more Blu-rays have all region playback anyway.

I'm aware.

This is all just intellectual rumination.

Zones are to stop the super pirates from shifting millions of units easily.

Do super pirates really (still) exist?

Seriously?

And if Super pirates did exist, how many seconds would it take them to get around zones in one of their Pirate factories?

The mob knows it can't compete with bit torrent.

So whyever Zones were invented in the first place, they're only kept to annoy old people and thwart cleversox thinking ebay will keep them ahead of the curve.

This is all so 20th century.

Another poster a while back was talking about how a friend in canada was posting him snail mail VHS tapes of Continuum, and he was surprised to find out that I thought that that was possibly criminal.

20 years for a loaf of bread, y'know?

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

I watched the pilot last night. It was OK. I enjoyed it, but not as much as most of the other new stuff I've watched lately. I enjoyed Sinbad more.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

I was at least entertained by it. I've seen some of the original Primeval series when SyFy ran it, and from what I remember, the creature effects are a lot better in New World.

For some odd reason, I was absolutely fascinated by the Lt. Leeds character even though he didn't get a lot of time on-screen. Of the group, he was by far the most interesting to me.

I won't go out of my way to watch it, but I'll probably keep watching if I can.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Compared to the UK Primeval cast of characters this cast is not interesting enough.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

After just one week, it's too early to judge how interesting the cast is, but I'm concerned it's just too large. I fear some characters will get short shrift.

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Short shrift? I think the word you may have been searching for is "eaten".

You know, within seconds of seeing the older Predator Control guy who "couldn't keep up", I knew he wasn't going to last to the end of the episode!

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Wait... how is it that I've had this whole series in my DVR for nearly half a year (Files dated from Oct of last year thru Feb of this year), if it's only just now being aired on US television?

Did it air on one of the premium channels first, and SyFy's current airing is just its "basic cable" premier? Or have I been time traveling again?

Are you sure it's Primeval: New World and not simply Primeval?

Re: Primeval: New World 1x01 "The New World" Discussion/Grading (Syfy

Primeval new World was made in Canada.

Canada is not America.

I'm guessing, when the Brits sold the license to the Candian's that part of the contract was to have first international airing rights, lead time, discounted purchases, or all of the above.

Primeval New World aired in Britain several months ago.
