PRIMEVAL cancelled? Nooooo!

Worf2DS9

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Just saw the series finale this week. Please tell me they're not going to leave our heroes in limbo indefinitely! No telemovie to wrap things up at least? It was nice to see Cutter's wife finally get what was coming to her though. And I'm gonna miss seeing Hannah Spearritt every week. :D

first I thought... what... huh.... what about the 4 and 5 seasons they just announced...
then reality.... you havn't heard about those yet...
Lets hope 4 and 5 are better....

It hasn't been a good show since the second season. The third was a total mess.

Its escapism, plain and simple. While S3 needed work, they were feeling their way. I think a coherent S4 could go a long way towards redeeming the series.

Escapism can be smart. And it should be engaging. Primeval's third season not only dumbed down the concept (with creatures grounded in real science giving way to increasingly fanciful products of future evolution), but dropped almost all the interesting characters (except Lester, the one consistent high point of S3), kept the boring characters, and added new characters that never really became interesting. As for the stories,
once they killed off Cutter, the show lost its direction. Helen completely vanished until the finale, because without Nick to play against, she no longer served any real dramatic purpose. The storyline just meandered until the finale. And the finale was lame because the heroes didn't do anything to affect the outcome. Helen was killed by a dinosaur that followed her through an anomaly, and she would've suffered the same fate even if the heroes had just stayed home that day.

^ Technically...

...the raptor followed Danny Quinn through the anomaly, and there's reason to doubt that Helen Cutter, stealthier and more experienced at navigating the past, would have caught the raptors' attention and caused one to follow her through. So they contributed in that minor fashion.

Otherwise, yes, I agree: it doesn't make for a good resolution to the arc, let alone the series (before the additional seasons were ordered), for the characters to be mere observers in the plot's denouement.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Not saying S3 didn't lack part of what made 1&2 so much fun-just saying a good S4 could salvage the overall show. There are still questions unanswered beyond the obvious ones in the finale. i'd like to see the answers.

Sure, I'd be happy to see more Primeval if it could be well-written again. But I've lost confidence in the people who make the show because of the poor job they did with S3.
