Primeval has been recommissioned for two series under a new co-production deal between ITV and UKTV.The arrangement, which also involves BBC America and German broadcaster Pro7, is for a seven-episode fourth series and a six-episode fifth.
ITV1 will premiere series four in early 2011, while Watch will have the first run of series five later that year. ITV1 will then broadcast series five.
Stars Andrew Lee Potts, Hannah Spearitt, Ben Miller and Jason Flemyng will all return for the new batch of episodes.
"I am thrilled that ITV has agreed to this new deal, which will allow us to produce another 13 episodes of Primeval," said Tim Haines, creative director of Impossible Pictures. "The confidence demonstrated in the programme's continued success here and abroad will help us bring more big screen action and a whole host of new creatures roaring back into people's living rooms."
did not see that coming, I guess this highlights the VERY poor decision ITV made in axing it, in the first place

I was just coming to post that. I'm glad to hear it's coming back, I just hope they improve it somewhat from series 3.

I just saw the third episode of season three on DVD. I still like the show. Though the cloning stuff comes off a little silly.

Looks like UKTV are getting in to more production, this deal, and the scripted comedy deal Dave just made, hopefully things are looking up a little for the TV sector with these sorts of deals?

There's an interview here, by the sounds of it the international co-producers will be putting up more money, and they're moving production to Ireland for a tax break and keeping the budget at £1m per episode.

2011? Well, plenty of time to catchup on those missed episodes!

2011 was prtty much a given as it hadn't started production earlier this year - in 2006 & 2007 they were just wrapping up the season about now, though I imagine production ran a little later for the longer season 3.
One upside of the 'year off' looks to be that Ben Miller'll be back, whereas he was booked to do other things this summer and might have had to skip.

They're bringing back Jason Flemyng's character? I was just warming up to him when they decided to off with him. I wonder how they'll bring him back??
