Just ask yourself one thing. What Would Kirk Do?

Totally unmake an entire alien civilization he knows nothing about and hamstring its leaders while forcing them to accept some half-assed solution he spent fifteen minutes thinking of, then beam back to his ship, crack some jokes and cruise off into the sunset without ever thinking another thought about his handiwork.

Once again I wonder if certain people on this board have even watched Star Trek. I really wish people would include facts when making their claims that Kirk broke the Prime Directive at every turn.

It might be because of Kirk that the directive became Prime in the first place. Wanna bet that not long after Enterprise' departure, Starfleet arrived at Sigma Iota to find the entire inhabitants had used reverse-engineered copies of Starfleet phasers to annihilate themselves?

Pretty sweet trick on their part since McCoy left his communicator behind.

And then Spock said that a fundamental part of all their basic technology was in the communicator, meaning they gave advanced tech to a race that pretty much had no right to it and would likely abuse it.

STAR TREK; MOP UP CREW...I like the idea. A series that uses FOREST GUMP movie tech, and allows a new crew to visit worlds that Kirk-Picard-Sisko-Janeway made messes up, and this crew cleans up the mess..I LIKE IT ALREADY!!!

Wow..just saw the final poll results. Interesting commends about the PD indeed. I wonder what GR would say in rebuttal???

Rob

Are we talking about Sane and Rational Gene Roddenberry, who was a television producer from the 1960s who introduced the Prime Directive because he saw that unjustified foreign interventions like the Vietnam War were disasters for the United States and Vietnam?

Or are we talking about His Holiness Pope Gene I, the "visionary futurist" from the 1980s who could serve as the arbiter of all morality and created The Franchise (TM) to spread his gospel of enlightenment and utopia across the globe?

Umm...good point!

The PD is one of many Gene L Coon inventions, according to several sources.

I like the ethos of letting people develop (or not, as the case may be) how they will. ST is contradictory in its execution of the PD obviously, but it's a nice thought, especially in light of its Cold War context.
