Preview video for DC's Young Justice animated series

This actually looks really really interesting. I was curious before, but seeing the video I'm excited for this. Especially how it sounds like it'll be really deeply plotted and well-developed.

Interesting to hear they'll be the "black ops" team. Wonder how Supes and some of the idealistic League members will rationalize this?

They mentioned some characters won't survive, and we've already heard about Wonder Girl, Arrowette, and Speedy/Red Arrow appearing. Will we be losing some of Young Justice? Or some of the Justice League?

As a sidenote, I'm glad to see Captain Marvel. Not sure why, but I've always wished we got more of him.

ETA: So, I looked closely at the flashby of the League, and here's what I see of the 16 Leaguers:

Looks like solid, traditional choices. The choice of Zatara over Zatanna (assuming I'm right and that's who it is) is odd since that means there's only three (ETA: dumb mistake I corrected) female Leaguers, but otherwise it's hard to argue with these 16.

Perhaps they're saving Zatanna to be a teenager that they encounter down the road, or a possible extra team member? Yes I know in the comics she's older, but as with Bruce Timm's DCAU they're totally free to cherry pick whatever works best for them.

Well, if Paul Dini writes any episodes of this, it's a safe bet Zatanna will show up sooner or later.

How is being a "black ops" team less dangerous than being supported by the world's greatest heroes? Especially when many of the teens are their heroes sidekicks. Batman: The Brave and the Bold news from Comic-Con: the show will, as expected, end its run at 65 episodes. Both Superman and Wonder Woman have been cleared to appear in future episodes. It was hinted that James Tucker has started work developing a new Batman animated series.

Oh God, not ANOTHER one!

I know WB is risk averse these days, but PLEASE! You've got a whole stable to choose from...something OTHER than Supes, Bats and the League would be nice!

I hope Green Lantern works out for them and we finally get the field opened up for the 2nd tier characters...

Oh, the preview looked great, and I too am wondering who bites it...

Yeah I've been wondering how the League will rationalize this since this is supposed to be a compromise for them not joining the League themselves. I'm thinking the teens aren't looking to join the League. They're looking to operate independently, and the compromise that's reached is that they'll be a black ops team operating under the guidance of the League, with the League available to intercede if necessary.

Given that this is a cartoon for young viewers, I doubt that "black ops" will mean the kind of thing it's used to mean in spy thrillers and the like. I figure it's more like secret or undercover missions. It's not like they'll be going around performing assassinations or something.

The panel at the NYC comic con showed a video preview of the series and announced that the pilot would air November 26. Wiseman confirmed that they will be using Earth-16 for the series and that it is a young universe, with not much happening yet. He explained why Dick and Wally were used instead of Tim and Bart and it's because they wanted to restart over which seems like a lame excuse to me. Zatara (Zee's father) will be on the Justice League and it will become clear half way through the season where Zatanna is and why she's not on the Justice League.

"Young Justice" will take from many different aspects of the DC Universe. Cadmus looks like it will be a factor. The Gaurdian is supposed to figure prominently. Batman seems to be a reason why Young Justice forms in the first place and the Justice League is relatively new. He also mentioned that the portrayal of Superboy will be different. He'll be taking the name Conner Kent eventually. Red Tornado acts as their mentor and "mother hen". We'll see the Justice League a lot. There are no embargoes on any characters he said, they're free to use anyone they wish. There was an embargo on four characters originally but that was lifted late into the process.


I must say that I'm pretty excited for this and the "Green Lantern" animated series next year.

Nice to have a debut date announced, and really nice that there are no characters under embargo.

It sounds like there are going to be even more DC characters showing up in this show than in Batman: The Brave and the Bold since the producers said that over 150 DC characters will appear in the first 18 episodes alone.

Too bad he is not one of the writers for YJ. The slate of who is writing what episodes for season 1 have already been posted and he is not up there.
