We return to the planet Sigma Iotia II (bka as the gangster world from the TOS episode "A PIECE OF THE ACTION") where Dr. McCoy's lost communicator has radically altered the culture of the world and now Kirk and the Enterprise crew has to deal with the repercussions of Bones' mistake.

Join us for "Communication Breakdown" coming in June 2019 from IDW Publishing.

NOTE: I tried to post the image here, but it did not work. If anyone could assist with that, I would really appreciate it.

What's certainly a very busy comic book cover, very difficult to see what number it is at a quick glance. Is this maybe a variant or is this the main cover?

Also, PreviewsWorld has constantly frustrated me, that's supposed to be the official pre-ordering source of information, but they never update their images and have no ability to update casual users that a book has been canceled :(

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, hope it continues to entertain!

To answer myself: it's an incentive cover, so even more specialized than a variant!

We've had a variety of different "Back to Iotia" stories in comics and Strange New Worlds already -- I hope IDW can come up with a new angle.

I really enjoyed the sequel story Marvel Comics did in their Unlimited comic series. Where Picard and enterprise E return to sigma iotia to find the iotians imitates 23rd century starfleet.

Also, the producers of DS9 considered this same premise early on for the storyline of that show's TOS 30th anniversary-episode in 1996, eventually evolving into "Trials and Tribble-ations."

Ugh. The gangster world. Hasn't this been done to death already?

That title's going to create confusion, since "Communications Breakdown" is the title of a story from TokyoPop's second Star Trek manga (a "Changeling" sequel following up on Uhura's recovery and the Malurian disaster).

Not the first time: off the top of my head there's the TNG episode First Contact and the TNG Movie First Contact. There's the TNG episode The Emissary and the DSN episode Emissary. Sure there are probably a few other examples out there.

Sure, there are plenty. But they do sometimes create confusion, especially when they're between two works in the same medium. And this is a less generic title than something like "Reunion" or "The Return," so it's a bit more surprising to see it (nearly) duplicated.
