Predicted effects of sales of SGA direct to dvd movie.

I got to thinking about it a while ago, and while Ark of Truth, and Continuum sold very well, and the prospect of many more SG-1 dvds is a definite reality, I dont think the SG:A upcoming dvd will sell as well, and it could, realistically be the last Atlantis material ever made. Do people agree with me or am I under estimating this?

The Atlantis movie will air on SciFi before its DVD release so it will be a combination of sales and viewing figures that will decide its fate but I think that there is a strong likelihood that there will only be one movie made.

I suspect that if they do continue to make Stargate DVD/TV movies they will eventually find themselves using a pick and mix approach to the cast using whoever is available from both shows.

I think Flanigan's Mom might buy copies as Xmas gifts. Beyond that, I can't really see phenomenal performance.

I think it will sell ok, but not as much as the SG-1 movies.

SG-1 was on for 10 years, and the core cast didn't change until Season 8. Fans really loved those characters because they were so well-defined. And the new characters that came in (Cam, Vala) were fun to watch.

SGA was on for half the time (still, 5 seasons is still good these days), and, well, how many cast changes? Ford out. Beckett out. Weir out. Keller in. Carter in. Carter out. Woolsey in, and by all accounts, Ronan would be gone in Season 6 or 7 if the show went that long.

Plus, while the writers did a great job on McKay, some of the other characters (yes, Teyla, I'm looking at you) didn't receive the same attention and as a result, just weren't interesting to watch.

I think the movie will do decent business, maybe not great compared to the SG-1 movies, but it will still make a decent profit with decent marketing.

I'll be renting, that's for sure. I don't buy much on DVD, but no matter how bad SG:A gets, there will still be Shep...

I'll probably get it, as a gift or on sale, assuming the reviews don't eviscerate it. After all, I managed to struggle through season four of the show on DVD, so what's one more DVD movie?

I'm looking forward to another SG-1 movie with RDA a lot more, though.

It's a TV movie, not a DVD movie.

...that's designed to go straight to DVD right after the airing, no? Along the same lines of "Battlestar Galactica: Razor" and "24: Redemption." Perhaps there is a distinction, but it's becoming blurred.
