Predator (franchise)

OK, fanboys, a special ops force team led by Schwartzennegger to negociate with the Roman military Praetor to fight off a Predator invasion.

Honestly I kinda think the concept is played out by now. The Predator was cool as hell in the original movie, but we've already seen him do his thing multiple times, and it's just feeling awfully stale and predictable by this point (hell, I thought the best parts of the last movie were them just exploring the alien planet, or fighting the dog creatures; once the actual Predators showed up it got amazingly dull).

The problem is, much like with the Xenomorph in the Alien movies, there's just no more mystery left. We know their weaknesses and modus operandi, and we know why they do what they do (and sorry, but learning more about their culture or homeworld doesn't sound remotely interesting to me).

Enough. We just need another movie with Predators hunting human beings. That's the plot. Period. All the other crap is window dressing.

But yes, a Predator set in the past would be great.
I think one of Robert Rodriguez's ideas for a Predator movie was essentially "Predator meets Pirates of the Caribbean."

If I were making an historical Predator movie, I'd set it during the Battle of the Bulge. You have a group of American soldiers who are low on supplies in the Ardennes forest and have been cut off by the Germans who are hunting them down in the middle of winter -- and you drop a Predator or three into the middle.

There's a lot you can do with Predator - an explanation of the culture for one. There's a lot of room for mystery, but you have to be willing to expand the scope from the Predators.

The original concept of Predator by the way was a bioengineered alien that didn't have a cloak, but a camo field as advanced as certain octopi. It was going to be something else entirely.

There are innumerous tales of the hunt that could be done. You could even put a conservationist face on it - a Predator loses his shit because of what humans have done to his families African hunting preserve that they've been visiting for ten thousand years.

Even following up Predators with Brody's character trying to find his way back home. All sorts of revelations that could be done there. You'd need to introduce a new baddy at some point though.

Love this idea. Although I've always imagined a Predator film set at either the Battles of Iwo Jima or Okinawa.

I love this thread. It's like a cesspit for our most digusting mental byproducts. :D

My contribution: Predator 3: Predator Dances with Wolves...

I've read that the novelisation of Predator 2 has Agent Peter Keyes (The guy who leads the team sent to capture the Predator) remembering meeting Dutch in a military hospital, suffering from radiation sickness. Can anyone tell me more?
