Pre-Employment Drug Screening and the Paranoia of False Positives

The argument is not that speeding is dangerous. The argument is that speeding is illegal. It doesn't matter how safe or unsafe it is. If you speed, you are breaking the law. If you use drugs, you are breaking the law.

So what I'm seeing is that we could reduce car crashes by 5% if people like you stopped speeding. I don't think that link is saying what you want it to say.

Plus of course breaking a law like a speed limit, could indicate that a candiate for a job has no respect for speed laws, so why should they respect the policies of your company.

All other things being equal, It could also mean that said person may be at work before everyone else.

All other things being equal, the guy on drugs might be the happiest and most upbeat guy at work.

Do you see why your argument is totally absurd?

I have Epilepsy and I take a host of medications. I always tell people what I am taking. Some people think hiding the facts is a good way to get a job but I don't see it that way. Keeping the truth out in the open makes for less of a chance that someone is going to ask an awkward question. And hey, if they don't want you because you are on a legal prescription drug, there are better people to work for.
