Praxis and Qo'noS

In TUC, the destruction of Praxis put the Klingon Homeworld in danger, to the extent of a planet-wide evacuation being considered. But in TNG everything looks to be fine on Qo'noS. So what happened?

Was the planet evacuated and another resettled and renamed? Were the environmental hazards the moons destruction caused solved?

It's one thing that's always made me wonder.

If you listen closely to what the President says in the scenes, you hear him talk about a humanitarian mission. Spock said "they do not have the resources with which to combat this catastrophe." The Federation, from what was written in VI, helped to save Kronos.

I know that they went to help the Klingons, but how? New technology that reversed the environmental damage? Resettlement of the whole population? Augmenting Klingon genetics to withstand the changes the destruction of Praxis caused?

To me the first choice seems more likely, as Qo'noS is always called the Homeworld and never Qo'noS II.

It is never made clear TNG or DS9. I know that TNG started after TUC, but the situation (aside from the beginnings of the peace) is never mentioned again. Maybe its another thing the the forehead scandal, in that it is never discussed.

I just find it odd that a plot matter as big as the end of the Klingon Homeworld was never fully resolved.

It is never made clear TNG or DS9.

Many plot points are deliberately not made clear, such as the elderly admiral's name in "Encounter at Farpoint", Picard witnessing Sarek's son getting married, was Sito Jaxa really dead, and which Sulu vouched for Chakotay's entry into the Academy, etc.

Where would be the fun if everything was explained in full?

Let us also remember that we only saw Qo'noS before and after the disaster, never during. On Enterprise, in the premiere, we see a Qo'noS that is sunny and bright, and on TNG, especially Sins of the Father and Redemption, it's always stormy on Qo'noS. It's safe to assume that Qo'noS is still recovering from the environmental disaster of the destruction of Praxis in the 24th century.

Well, it's simple. The homeworld, Kronos, was evacuated. The Klingons then setted on their new homeworld: Qo'noS.

Next. :)

Ann Crispin's Sarek has some fun with using a post-apocalyptic Klingon Homeworld as one of the settings. Environmental threats aren't discussed much; we mainly get treated to fireworks as the remains of Praxis gradually rain down on Qo'noS in a constant shower of shooting stars...

Praxis and a cool setting for a picnic.

I personally would have liked to have seen 24th Century characters visit Praxis, or at least what was left of it. A brief image of Praxis in Star Trek 6 showed that more than half of it was blown away. It looked as though people on the surface could have a picnic at the edge of the cliff, look down, and see nothing below but more sky. A cliff that drops off forever and has no base. How cool would that be? Eh?

Well, it would be cool to me.
