The purpose there may simply have been to further display the mirror costumes. But they will seriously miss the boat if they don't do a poster of the image:

Well, she did get some work done on her forehead after the first season. The mole is now gone also in real life. One more change for the second season. Better or worse, not sure yet.

In universe, evil dopplegangers are a real problem for Original Tilly... On one hand she is going to fail any ID tests comparing herself to older photographs or medical records... But it also means that she is now physically different from clones and mirror counterparts, who try to replace her with out some due diligence before hand.

I imagine if the show runners or whoever didn't like the mole, it would have been gone before the episodes featuring tilly started filming, or they would have just gone for an actress who was blemish free. My guess is it got removed for health reasons, maybe there was a risk of it becoming cancerous or something so Wiseman got it cut.

I'm actually waiting for the 'what happened to tillys mole' or 'will tillys mole receive its own spinoff that will eclipse discovery' threads.

It was actually gone already when she attended Destination Star Trek in Germany in spring. She must have gotten it removed pretty soon after the filming for first season finished.

For the record, I think she looks better with the eyebrows. Was the first shot from the pilot ep?

Killy's face looks about as realistic as Leia's in the final scene of Rogue One. Airbrushing? More like tornadobrushing.
