Perhaps on the inner edge of the "goldilocks zone".

Delta Vega is a neighbor of Vulcan.

It is a cold planet.

Perhaps on the outer edge of the goldilocks zone.

Artificial singularity is created.

Vulcan is destroyed.

Artificial singulairity is unstable and disapates/explodes/whatever.

Gravity change shifts orbit of Delta Vega to the middle of the goldilocks zone.

Delta Vega is re-named New Vulcan.
