Possible interwoven characters

Grup

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Has anyone done a count on ALL the possible characters Kirk should encounter in this movie? From Gary Mitchell to Finnegan to Captain Garth?

I have the feeling that this version of Kirk isn't going to encounter any of those people, although I wish they could've included Mitchell.

Plenty of time for him to meet up with Janice Lester.

She's at the top of everyone's list, right? :D

Top of MY list: MU Spock.

Enough that, if you were actually to include them all, you'd end up with a seventeen-hour checklist movie and no room for a story.
"Gary Mitchell? Check. Okay, thanks for coming... next! Um, John Gill? Check. Next! Rose? Check. Blonde lab assistant (whom everyone's sure is really Carol Marcus)? Check. Thanks, now move along... who's next... um, Ben Finney?"
Yeah, we were there a year ago, if not longer.

Should? No one of them should be in the movie. ;)

Yes, there should have been a roll call at Starfleet Academy, with some dude carrying a clipboard, checking everyone's name off. It would have been riveting.

Hmmm, could that be what Paul McGillion's character is for?

The thing is, this movie depicts an altered timeline. According to WNMHGB, Mitchell and Kirk were friends for 15 years, before Kirk's command. Maybe he could show up in passing at some point, but this movie seems to blow the 15 year association out the window.

At one point, I thought it would have been neat, but all the harping on all these people in Kirk's past from TOS that "should" be in the movie have caused me to not be too concerned about them anymore.

Sadly, these characters of depth and complexity were neglected from the movie to make way for extremely shallow and pointless characters like the hovercop and Drunk Uncle Frank.

What's even stupider is that Kirk's mentor should be Captain Garrovick or Ensign Mallory's father, but instead it's Pike. Pike has depth and complexity, yes, but he's not Kirk's mentor and was never meant to be.

This Kirk goes to the academy later in life and will not meet any of the people who Kirk-prime knew at the academy.

Thank God.
