Spoilers Possible connection between SNW and TMP

Yeah, i know. That's why i think a mutation may have given the Augments (or to be more precise, their descendants) some psionic abbilities and a more stable and peaceful mind. Or the Vulcans helped them with both of these things.

Especially as the Augments seem to have been very much like pre-surakian Vulcans...

Not seeing that AT ALL.

Not seeing that AT ALL.

I guess the ruthlessness and unchecked ambition of the Augments and their instability are something they have in common with the Vulcans before Surak, so it would be possible that some Vulcans, when they arrived on Earth, might have felt a kind of kinship with them and some obligation to help them.

Would at least be interesting to see such a thing imho, but we'll have to wait and see if that's part of the background story for La'an.

Could there be a connection between La'an Noonian Singh and the New Human Movement, known from Gene Roddenberry's TMP novelization?

Perhaps they evolved or developed from the remaining Augments left on Earth after the Eugenic Wars and WW3.

But wasn't the New Human Movement from the TMP novelisation mostly about telepathy and naked people gathering in "mass minds" and forswearing violence and stuff like that?(leaving people in Star Fleet, like Kirk, as "old humans"?
Plus from what I remember the TMP novelization says that most of human civilians (or was it just Earth?) have become "New Humans"...which, well, is pretty much contradicted by every piece of Star Trek were we see heaps of human (even Terran) civilians going around leading normal lives, instead of floating around in mass minds.

Not sure how La'an possibly being an augment (possibly) would have anything to do with that? It's like a whole different branch of transhumanism (genetic improvement vs psychic awakening)

In Gene Roddenberry's TMP novelization, the New Humans were supposed to be kind of a hive mind. That hints at some telepathic abbilities.

As the majority of the humanity doesn't seem to have evolved, it could be that either the Augments already had some undiscovered and untrained psionic powers or there was a mutation or some genetic tinkering that gave them or their descendants these abbilities.

As i said before, maybe the Vulcans helped them and they became as a result like they were presented in the mentioned novel.

The nudity issue as well as the pacifism may have been a cultural trend, either introduced by the New Humans or something that happened without any connection to them.

I think it's rather the first than the second possibility. Maybe the New Humans were the cause for what humanity became like during at least the first seasons of TNG.

I still don't understand what the telepathic New Humans (which still aren't canon for the shows, as of right now) have to do with augments?
Or why this would mean the La'an is a New Human. I mean did I miss something or was La'an said to be a telepath?

As most of the human characters in Trek, with one notable exception in TOS, don't have telepathic abbilities, i guess the Augments with their genetic superiority would be a good possible origin if one would make the New Humans finally canon.

And in "Unnatural Selection" we already saw some genetic manipulation on Darwin Station resulting in children with psionic abbilities.

As for La'an we simply don't know anything about her so far, beside her name. So this question, about who or what she is, remains open but i think something like i mentioned is very possible.
