Possibilities of Spock dying

I personally think it is clichéd gimmick to have a main character die for some noble cause. There are other to create dramatic impact that doesn't involve the same old "He Gave His Life to Save Others" storyline.

The handling of Spock's death in TWok wasn't too bad (although I thought that film was much better up until that point), but Kirk's death and Data's death were just gimmicks, in my opinion. Data's and Kirk's death were self-indulgent in as much as they tried to create drama own their own, rather than being a meaningful part of the existing drama.

My guess is that he'll be alive at the end in order to protect the new timeline created in the film. I believe it will ultimately be his choice to either wipe out this new timeline and press the reset button or keep the new one (and the new cast etc.) for some future advantage. And if he makes that choice, he may have to remain alive to help the timeline be maintained.

His death may have certain dramatic possibilities for the film, but keeping him around (metaphorically at least) would signal that the film makers care about maintaining that connection to Trek's rich history.

While this debate rages on, I'll be brushing up on my bagpipes; Now all I have to do is dig up that old Amazing Grace sheet music.

Spock should die of old age. Not in the line of duty, not for some noble cause. I dunno, it would be fitting. He struggled and fought all his life but he was too smart and the bastards never got him! Instead, he dies of old age in his bed. Haw! :D

They could have old Spock throw his IDIC necklace out an airlock, go to his quarters where he hops into bed surrounded by pictures of all his old crewmates and drifts off. Then there would be a flyby through the ships corridors finally arriving on the bridge, where the younger version of the crew applaudes his arrival; Cue Celine Dion. The End.

This movie is supposed to revitalize the Star Trek franchise. The main focus is on this fresh young crew with actors recast to fill these iconic roles. The death of a beloved character, such as Spock, I think would cast a depressing pall over the rest of the film and take away from the creators' efforts to revitalize the franchise with this new, young cast.
Bingo. This is the main reason I would not do it.

This is why they need Sam Cogley's Boston Legal style ending.

Id like to see Spock telling a 25th century group of cadets about his early days in starfleet, then slipping away while the cadets look to the future.

Spock will be sitting in the bar where the Nausicaans stabbed Lt. J.G. Picard, having a drink with some buddies. A few questionable characters of at least three different species walk in. Spock looks up from his drink.

The screen goes black.

Naaah. Noone would ever do that on TV or film.

1,000 tribbles roll in.

They scream, "You killed my father!"

Spock arches is eyebrow.

"No...I am you father."

Tribbles sob, "No! That's impossible!"

Spock dryly says, "Search your feelings. You know it to be true."

Fade Out

how about this, Spock saves the Universe(agian)and then Al shows up and say's " Time to go home Sam " then leaps back into Dr. Sam Becket in the year 2008 where finds himself back home finally. He see's his wife and the last line in the movie is " Oh boy " roll credits:bolian:

Well I have to say that this topic has helped me relax about the possibility a little, it seems less likely. But you never know :(
