Porthos in Twilight

There was a scene of an old Porthos shot when Archer woke up 12 years after the accident that was cut. I was bummed this didn't show up as deleted scene on the DVD. Is there any chance this might be added with the Blu-Ray discs come out? I wish we could tell someone who could do something about it.

Thanks.

A fair few interesting additions could be considered for Blu Ray. Yes, scenes cut for timing reasons because they continually struggled to keep the show under 40 minutes (minus titles).

I'd love to see a CG HD tour of the ship herself. CBS DVD simply have to get SFX guys like Doug Drexler involved for an extra like that.

Did you check the blu ray set? If it's not included on the blu ray, then it will probably never be available.

Some people insist that "Admiral Archer's prized Beagle" that nuScotty loses in his transporter experiment in ST09 was Porthos. None of my Beagles ever lived past 12 or so, and even taking into account the veterinary medical advances of the future, I don't think that Porthos would have survived into the 2240's or 50's, he would have to have been around 100 years old at that point. It is more likely that Scotty lost a great-grandson of Porthos instead.

My father had a series of basset hounds for nearly 50 years. They were all named Sam. Even the girl.

So I'm totally believing it was Porthos the 5th or something.

Are you sure the scene was actually shot? They may have abandoned it before filming because they didn't want to risk harming the actual dog by putting age makeup on it.

Heck, Archer was on his third Tucker by the time of his Founding Of The Federation Speech. By the 23rd century he might be up to like twelve Porthoses.

No reason why pets in the future could not live a lot longer with advances in genetic manipulation. Current dog breed were created for a certain set of traits by selective breeding over time. One side effect is that each breed has a weakness in it's design. My sister has greyhounds and because they were bred to be extremely fast for a short time they do not live long- a small wound becomes a terrible ordeal most end up with cancer.
'Future' science has been shown to have the ability to re-engineer a creature without altering it's outside appearance, drastically altering it's abilities as with TOS Khan. No reason why they could not make pets live longer so they can still be a part of a persons longer life expectancy as well.

Every time Porthos kicked the bucket, Archer took him down to Re-Pet from the Arnie film The Sixth Day. Hence 150-year-old Archer still having a Porthos for Scotty to beam into oblivion a few months before ST'09.:p

Scotty never said it was a live Beagle. Archer might have had the original stuffed and Scotty was beaming Archer's luggage somewhere.

The novelization ends with Porthos arriving in the Transporter Room unseen

OK, that's different. There was a time I read the movie novelizations and knew about cut & unfilmed stuff like that.
There's another version of the scene in IDW's Scotty issue of Star Trek Ongoing.
