Portal. Is there going to be a sequel?

Just finished playing Portal and although it was very short I thought it was a great game :bolian:.

I've been trying to find out a bit about the game and how it fits into the Half-life universe and I came across some articles about a sequel.

There definitely seems to be a sequel of sorts on the way but I can't figure out if it is meant to be a stand alone game or DLC on the 360.

Anyone got any more information on this?

Anyone want to share their love of this little game?

Half Life 2, episode 3 is supposed to have you on an Aperture Science ship called the Borealis. Not sure if you will be using a Portal Gun or not.

Could be fun.

I would like another game where GlaDos has another test subject. Either that or Gordan Freeman is the test subject and he has to fight his way through her android army and portal traps.

Actually, there is a rumor that Portal 2 is still in the works because of a certain casting call made by Valve:

Details given to us last night about Valve's rumored casting of the sequel (or prequel) to its Orange Box hit Portal hinted at a big role for Aperture Science's founder Cave Johnson. The potentially spoiler-iffic painted portrait and brief bio of the possible Portal 2 antagonist led us to believe that the sequel may take place prior to the original. Maybe not, based on some rumored dialogue that a source passed on.

Warning: It's all spoiler territory from here on...

The script samples we saw for the Cave Johnson role indicate that the Aperture CEO and "eccentric dead billionaire" is, well, already dead, living on in simulated computer form. He tells an unnamed rookie test subject via loudspeaker that "As of this mornin' yer old buddy Cave has been resurrected inside of a computer. And I never felt better!" acting as this entry's GlaDOS—possibly that prototypical GlaDOS, as theorized earlier—encouraging the player to continue the testing while waxing philosophical about the afterlife.

But when it comes to the XBLA title, Portal: Still Alive, I remember Doug Lombardi saying in an interview that PSA is simply just extra puzzles for those who haven't bothered to purchase the Orange Box yet. Unfortunately, however, PSA will not reprise the role of GlaDOS. :(

I hope this helps sort out the confusion. :)

From what I remember Still Alive is Portal plus extra maps available for download on the PC. I could be wrong about that though.

Very interesting news. I'm going to put this down as one of my most anticipated games of 2008/9/10 or whenever.

I love the song at the end of the game. I think every games developer should write you a nice song when you have completed the game.

I had read that the section aboard the Borealis was cut material from episode 2.

^Not quite. The Borealis was originally in Half-Life 2. See here.

We see the Borealis in Episode Two as it appears that Dr. Mossman has found it but the Combine have found her.

^I have to admit not ever playing Half-Life 2. I have the Orange Box but haven't really had to time to go play.

Considering it's a last generation port should I put some time aside for it?

Well, technically Source doesn't really fall into "last gen" in the way that say, UE2 would. It's a single platform that's been iterated on for the last several years, which is why the Orange Box games can look as good as they do.

Personally, I find the pacing in the original HL2 to be off putting. Combined with jumping puzzles, I put it in my "I really need to play this before I die" pile along with a lot of other games.

Wait... do you mean to say they've taken the Flash Version of Portal, and turned those levels into actual maps for the real Portal?

Yep, it is quite polished for what amounts to a player developed mod/mappack. I am almost through the mappack and it is indeed difficult.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I just learned about this mod: Portal: Prelude. This thing looks incredible. And it is a MOD, not officially produced by Valve. Three French developers have been toiling for 8+ months on this thing. I only hope it turns out to be as good as advertised. And it is free. This can only be a good thing, folks.

Check out the trailer

Oh my, I can't wait to try this thing. It's been far too long since I got a new challenge! :techman:
