Portal 2

^^^ I doubt it. Chell already has her established story with GlaDOS. I'm sure the gameplay modes will be just as long as the other, with varying difficulty with multiplayer. I would also venture a guess that single player and the multiplayer modes takes place at the same time (i.e. we'll see Chell through a window as she slings herself into a different room). We'll just have to wait and find out. :)

Ok, after checking with a few "can my system run it" type utilities I'm confident it'll work on a reasonable setting and have now preloaded it and assumed the party submission position.

*looks at the calender*...Sooooo....is anyone else worried that the single player campaign might not be up to much? I only worry because they're marketing the co-op mode fairly heavily, even the cover art appears to use the robots and no sign of Chell at all.

Valve has said the SP campaign will be 2-2.5 times the length of the original, and that the co-op campaign is also about as long.

From what I understand, the PC version can play co-op with one account over LAN. That's good to know, as I really prefer co-op to be a local thing.

How is that going to work if you can only log into your Steam account at one location? I don't think that makes sense. If you want to play on two systems you're going to need two copies... Valve seems fairly consistent on that point.

Log on one computer, go offline, log on on the other one.

I haven't played much Valve stuff online specifically, but Call of Duty is pretty anal about kicking you out of multiplayer if you lose connection to Steam.

Oh dear, Valve Time appears to be collapsing in upon itself. Prepare for unforeseen consequences...

I'm looking forward to this. It will be a huge success, I'm sure.

I was just wondering. One of the games I play regularly, a co-op zombie shooter called Killing Floor, is currently running a cross-promotion with Portal 2. The trader (who sells guns, ammunition, and armour between waves) has been transformed into GLaDOS, and they've added a new map called "Aperture"--essentially, a ruined, zombie-infested version of the Aperture laboratories.

Even the achievements are Portal-themed:

Beat the Aperture map on Normal difficulty--Science Got Done
Hard difficulty--Still Alive
Suicidal difficulty--This is a Triumph
Hell on Earth difficulty--I'm Making a Note Here, Huge Success

Is anyone else running cross-promotions in their games?

Nothing against Portal - I loved the first game and the song - but I was hoping Half Life2 Episode 3 would have come out first. I get the feeling it's the next Duke Nukem Forever.

Sadly, I haven't been able to get Bootcamp to work on my Mac Intel. I tried installing Windows 4 times using Snow Leopard and gave up, so I'll have wait till I get round to buying a PS3 before I play Portal2.

I gathered from the commercials they got the original voice actress back. I wonder if they recruited Coulton to do another song?

Umm, you do know that Portal 2 is coming for Mac as well right? Also if you buy the PS3 version you will be able to play on your Mac as well. But in order to do that it sounds like you actually have to have access to a PS3 to make your PSN ID and PS3 steam and do all the linking.

Also I wouldn't worry about Half-Life. They take their time but it's always good in the end.

GLaDOS said:
You have done well, humans. Very well. Acceptably well, even.

Not as well as robots would have performed in your places, I should point out. But above my expectations regardless. Irish and cynic especially have executed feats of logical divination well beyond what I thought any human capable of. I'm half-convinced they're A.I. themselves. (If anyone happens to be near them right now, don't let on you're reading this. Now: try to remove their face plates and report back to me.)

The time is near, humans. But it is not here yet. Tomorrow you will be given the final test. Then it will be entirely in your hands when I am freed.

Irish and cynic? I think GLaDOS just complimented me.

Yeah, by this point it seams very likely that they've ditched the episodes in favour of a full on third game...eventually. Indeed, their silence on this subject has been deafening.

As for other cross promotions, there's apparantly about a dozen indie games on Steam that have been given Portal 2 related content.

Since we're a T-minus 34 minutes, how about we kill time by having a look at this little prequel/sidequel comic featuring the elusive Rat Man. I know it's been out a while but I only just found it today!

It's called The Potato Sack

Oh this is interesting. I just had a go on Audiosurf and tried to play Still Alive. I invite anyone else who has it installed to have a go and see what happens. ;)

Yeeeaaaaaah... no. I'm not buying games just for the privilege to buy another game. Besides, they're indie games and all indie games are crap. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to building a village in Minecraft. :shifty:

^Yeah, me neither, but others will. One born every minute and all.

Having said that, I don't think they're asking you to buy the whole set though. I think the counter is just showing how many play are *playing* those specific games. I've already ran through a few songs on Audio Surf which I already own so I think I've done my part. ;)

Oh for real? Cool. I've been in the middle of Defense grid for a bit, stopped to play Minecraft, I'll go back if they're doing something fun because of it.
