Port Royal: 17th C pirate TV series

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Port Royal

This is one of those ideas that I always wondered why somebody didn't do. It sounds like a realistic historical based series rather than a POTC type comedy/fantasy romp:

Port Royal, an hourlong series based on an original idea by Hurd. Set in the late 17th century on the island of Jamaica, the series will chronicle the namesake port’s notorious rise as the “richest and wickedest city” in the new world, and as a self-governing safe haven for cutthroat pirates

Yeah, the name sounds like a daytime soap. It could be interesting, if they cast some good people.

Okay, that sounds fun.

Speaking of Anne Bonney and gang, I have to recommend The Sweet Trade by Elizabeth Garrett, which is a really great novel about that bunch.

And, you know, The Sweet Trade wouldn't be a bad title for a pirate tv show . . . .

(I agree that, unfortunately, Port Royal sounds like a soap.)

This sounds like the latest in TV's new trend of period dramas with lots of lust and intrigue like Spartacus, Tudors, Rome, Borgias, Camelot, etc. Not that that is necessarily a negative. If it goes on Starz or other pay service I'd be good with that.

two things one this is not a april's fools is it I am sick of those already .
the second which channel is this going to be on?

It's not April Fools (and would be a pretty wtf joke anyway; people haven't exactly been complaining about the lack of any good pirate stuff on TV) and I don't think it's far along enough in development to have a channel yet.

Sounds really good. I always felt like Pirates of the Carribean was a bit of a misstep. I kind of wished they would have taken it in a more serious/realistic direction as compared to cartoony/comedy. Btw, anyone read Micheal Crichton's Pirate Latitudes? Concept sounds similar, and I hear Steven Spielberg is making a movie out of novel.

it should go to starz sex and violence belongs on cable. it would be good on amc or even history channel but to be pure to it , it needs to be on starz . and run it with camelot or spartacus.

pirate fiction is allways fun. the pirate of the caribian movies were fantastic . love at worlds end best of the three . also cutthroat island and jack of all trades .
