Porcupine Tree: New Album and Tour

PT just played Albuquerque last night.. Unfortunately, I forgot about the show until it was too late and didn't make it.. What's worse, Jon Wesley was their opener, and he is BRILLIANT!!!

See this show at all costs!!

I think you might be confuzzled.

Jon Wesley is in Porcupine Tree (at least, the touring version). He doesn't open for them. He is their back-up singer/guitarist.

But yes, by all means, see this show! They are touring now with Coheed and Cambria, playing a somewhat shorter set than when we saw them in San Francisco. But still worth it to see this awesome band perform. They are the shiznit, as the kids say....

Gee! The full version of Even Less! I've gotta say, I'm shocked they played that (in a good way)

Yes, it was quite a treat. From what I've seen, they're not playing that on the Coheed and Cambria tour.

The Radio City Music Hall show in September promises to be the ultimate blow-out. I'm hoping they plan on filming it.

I pray they film the RCMH NYC gig and/or the Albert Hall. These are possibly the biggest concerts in the Tree's career so far. And since they've hinted they probably won't play the Incident cycle in its entirety after the Albert Hall concert, we need a live document of The Incident for the ages! They apparently did record a few of the US dates on this year's tour cycle. And they never let these things go to waste. Atlanta was years ago, and they only just released it to the public recently.

Maybe they'll wait a while, though. We only just had a PT DVD after all. This year's been pretty hectic in terms of Steve Wilson related limited editions, boxsets, albums, etc. I'm going broke! For his sake and mine, I actually hope he slows down on his prolific recording for just a while, thanks! :)

On a PT-related tangent, their favourite touring friends Oceansize have their 4th album out in two weeks. I'm very much looking forward to that... indeed I just pre-ordered it AND their mammoth DVD/CD set of all 3 albums and an EP being played live on consecutive nights. I swore I'd never shell out for it... but after seeing them twice already, with another date next month, plus the sheer brilliance of their discography, I could resist no more. They're also supporting PT in Europe again in October, mere days after I see them on their own tour.

I don't know if you lot know them or listen to them, but I really recommend you do. The Charm Offensive, Meredith, Massive Bereavement and Paper Champion ought to do it.

^I look forward to the new Oceansize, too. I have only got Frames and the new EP Home & Minor, but the mammoth DVD/CD boxset sounds awfully tempting...

Seeing the 'Size and the Tree together would be an amazing concert experience.

Well I saw Oceansize last week and they were supreme. But that's not the reason for the thread necromancy again!

First, the Radio City set was astounding:
  1. Stranger By The Minute
  2. Small Fish
  3. Pure Narcotic
  4. Black Dahlia
  5. Futile
  6. Even Less
  7. Open Car
  8. Lazarus
  9. Tinto Brass
  10. The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One)
  11. I Drive the Hearse
  12. Bonnie the Cat
  13. Occam's Razor
  14. The Blind House
  15. Great Expectations
  16. Kneel and Disconnect
  17. Drawing the Line
  18. Dislocated Day
  19. Time Flies
  20. Anesthetize
  21. Up the Downstair
  22. Sleep Together
  23. Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
  24. Trains (on the setlist but not played)
I did see a picture of the setlist but can't find it again unfortunately.

More importantly though - today they announced 48 seats for the Royal Albert show next week. I'm going! Never booked a hotel, train and gig in such a frenzied fashion before and I cannot wait!

Isn't that an awesome setlist? The first few songs were acoustic. I read that Colin played an upright bass. I can't believe they played Stranger by the Minute. One of my all-time favorites.

I also read they ran out of time, and did not actually play Trains.

Have a great time at the RA show. I'm sure it will be epic. Bummer they are not filming these shows.

:(

Not filming them at all? Pity. I imagine for any DVD though they'd want the whole of the Incident, and half of it was dropped a while ago. Including the title track, which in my mind is just criminal... but I'll settle if it means The Sky Moves Sideways.

To confirm, this was amazing. And Steven confirmed they were filming it for possible future release...

EDIT: also, if they do release anything, it has to include the semi-acoustic version of Futile, played on acoustic guitar, upright bass and mini-drumkit. They even introduced it as 'the most inappropriate song we could think of to play acoustically, the closest we come to math-metal'. Honestly, one of the most surreal things I've ever seen and it was awesome.

That's great news that they filmed it! I read a quote where he said he wanted these shows to "only live on in memory".

I'm glad you had a good time. If I had seen them open with Stranger by the Minute I probably would have soiled myself.

The same guy has also uploaded the full glory of Even Less and I think has some more videos on the way.

Whoever the filmer is must have been sat right by me - that's exactly the view I had.
