Poor Riker

Gary Sebben

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Anyone notice that if someone needs to be abducted and experimented on/shoved into a virtual world it's always Riker?

Future Imperfect
Schisms
First Contact
Frame of Mind

Am I missing any? Is Frakes just that good at playing confused and agitated?

There was another thread about how often Picard gets abducted too, though, so he wasn't the only one to be frequently abducted. For example, Picard is stuck in a room with other people as part of a psychological experiment in "Allegiance" and beamed to a planet against his will to be tested with another captain in "Darmok". I think there were other times he was abducted too, but can't remember them off the top my head.

I think Geordi hold the record for kidnappings/abductions and other "bad shit" that happens to him.

Kidnapped in "Samaritan Snare"
Stranded and taken hostage by a Romulan on Galorndon Core in "The Enemy"
Kidnapped and brainwashed by Romulans in "The Mind's Eye."
Dies in an alternate universe in "Paralells"
Attacked and nearly dies in "Timescape"
Attacked and nearly dies in "Starship Mine"
Altered into an alien being in "Identity Crisis"
Kidnapped in Generations.
Phase-Cloaked in "The Next Phase"
Kidnapped and tested on by Data in "Descent Part 2"

Maybe they just think Riker is tough enough to take it! I'm not a big fan of him at all but I think he's quite entertaining in those episodes, you never worry he'll just faint away or anything either.

As Trekker says Geordi goes a lot too, he always looks pretty green and like he may just die. Picard is very old but very clever so he handles himself well when it's his turn, particularly in that Cardassian prison.

Let's not get started on what happens to Troi throughout the series. She's pretty much the prototype for the "O'Brien must suffer" DS9 stuff.

Yeah, I always considered Geordi the universe's whipping boy in TNG (O'Brien had that dubious honor on DS9).

Never really thought about it this way; Riker being the one that gets his hiny kicked. :p:lol:

lol a lot of shite seems to happen to everybody unfortunate enough to live in the ST universe, doesn't it?

of course, i guess people just going about their lives and having nothing happen to them wouldn't be a lot of fun to watch, would it? ;)

At least as a victim Riker had a purpose. The rest of the time he was just superfluous. I'd imagine on a real spaceship the captain and his first officer would alternate on the bridge, giving both time to rest while the other commands the ship. But due to the concept of a TV show, Riker always sat/stood next to Picard doing useless or redundant things, like telling Worf to raise shields (as if he wouldn't know...)

So it's like: hey, he's here, he doesn't have anything useful to do, let's get him abducted then!

Don't forget that he can't dog sit without it turning into an evil alien life form!

In reality I think this is more along the lines of the lives of the crew of your typical starship in the Federation Starfleet.

Yeah, basically like Sulu on the Excelsior at the start of TUC. Aside from the whole "Praxis blows up thing".
