Well.. it's beyond disgusting but at the end of the day it's just flesh, like cow flesh. I refuse to eat lamb brains which are sold in some butchers here but if I was starving I would.
But do you eat regular cuts of lamb (or beef or pork, for that matter)? The only difference is what part of the animal it comes from. The only reason (other than taste) that I would tend to avoid organ meats is that they’re high in cholesterol.

Reading about prion diseases puts me off eating brains. As to the differences.. of course they are different. Steak is muscle and brains are an organ. It's like comparing zuchinni to mushrooms, quite different vegetables and not everyone is going to like them both.

Interesting how so many folks here — among Trek fans, who are generally considered to be an open-minded lot — are disgusted by the very idea of eating human meat and would do so only under the direst of circumstances.

I feel the same way about eating dogs. It's not a circumstance that calls for being open minded any more than my not buying beche-de-mer in Asian groceries to fry up has anything to do with being open minded.

Now, mind you, I probably wouldn’t want to make it part of my everyday diet. But honestly, no bullshit, I’d like to taste “hairless goat” just once. Properly cooked, of course, not raw. I’m not a savage.

Although I’d probably rather be left in the dark about who I was eating.

Because I prefer to smother my friends in hugs and kisses rather than Hollandaise and ketchup?

And what of your enemies?

Bees.

Because I prefer to smother my friends in hugs and kisses rather than Hollandaise and ketchup?

Does it have to be either/or?

For me? Yeah.
Seriously, though, could you imagine cannibalism being acceptable in everyday society, and someone sending you an invite to dinner?

The thing is--I wasn't even thinking about eating people when I posted that.

I know people who like to play with things like chocolate and champagne and strawberries when they have sex.

Why not hollandaise sauce, if that's your thing?

The worst thing I can say is that it seems kind of--unromantic. Even unflattering. Like it's okay to think of your partner as dessert--but not the main course.

I figure it's due to association. We associate chocolate, strawberries and champagne with sensuality (redneck translation: "gettin' some"). It only makes sense that sensual foods lead to sensual applications for said foods. When I think of hollandaise sauce, I don't think sensuality.

So you’re saying it’s just a matter of taste, then — the way some people like snails and others prefer oysters? ;) ;)

Crush them, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. But don’t eat them.

I had no idea when I was watching Star Trek that it meant I should be more open to recreational cannibalism. I guess that explains this, though. Maybe I should hunt people for sport; I mean, the Hirogen did it, right? That was quite a leap of logic on your part.

At least there’s one thing I think we can all agree on: Cannibalism is FUNNY!

Hey! If you were a hot dog...and you were starving, would you eat yourself? I know I would! First, I'd smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I'd be so delicious!

Maybe just a slice of Bacon.

How about a nice Canadian ham?

^No way. He has Mad Cow.

You guys are KILLING ME!!! :guffaw:

I could never do it. Not even if i was starving. Not even if i tried to just to survive. My stomach isn't that strong. I know i'd gag and vomit.

Now THERE'S an image i just KNOW you wanted to have in your mind, right?

I dunno.. people drink their own pee when they are dying of thirst. I don't think you would vomit if you were that incredibly hungry.

Difficult to know for certain how I'd react, but I suspect I'd probably try it once, assuming it was legal (and reasonably sure it was free of disease i.e. subject to the same sort of checks that regular meat is), just to see what it tasted like. Doubt I'd make it a regular part of my diet though. Unless it was remarkably delicious. ;)

I can't personally envision it as being all that conceptually different to eating a cow or sheep or whatever. I can understand how someone could view it differently, but I personally don't see all that much difference, beyond the taboo aspect of it.

Now, eating insects or spiders; that's a whole other ballpark. :p
