The “King Kong 1933” thread got me thinking about the three actresses who starred in different versions of King Kong. So, irrespective of your opinions of the movies themselves, who's your favorite Kong babe? Is it Fay Wray, Jessica Lange, or Naomi Watts? And what about your choice appeals to you more than the others?

Maybe I'm just blinded by the weird-ass makeup styles of those early films, as the following opinion holds true for just about all the movies of the era I can think of, but I just don't see all much beauty in Wray. The earliest-made movie in which I've thought "wow, that lead woman is hot" is Joan Fontaine in Hitchcock's 1940 Rebecca.

As for Lange, I'm sure she's cute enough, but I don't think I've ever seen her on film, so that's a non-option for moi.

Watts, OTOH, while not my favorite Hollywood babe by a long shot, is incontestably beautiful in a movie-star glamour kind of way, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if she were the best actress of the three. So, I'll side with the Nostalgia Critic on this one; she more or less gets my vote by default.

If you want to see an "early-film" beauty who was a GODDESS in my opinion, check out silent film actress Jobyna Ralston:

Jobyna acted from 1919-1931--an amazing beauty who sparkled all the brighter in movement.

For Kong babes, I have to go with Naomi Watts. Wray just doesn't do it for me and Jessica Lange has the personality of a wet blanket in virtually every performance I've ever seen from her. Watts had sparkle and personality and was plenty pretty. Her juggling routine to amuse Kong was one of the highlights of the film for me.

I've never seen any of the movies, but from the picture in the OPs post, whoever the girl is in the bottom left

Sorry, even she looks more like a porcelain doll than a woman to me, even in the clips above. And those coquettish smiles (like the one above) that nearly all those era's actresses constantly push makes me think less "ooh, she's being flirty and cute" than they do "the reptilian-human female hybrid is about to enter attack mode."

Whereas Joan Fontaine, for instance, looks recognizably human and beautiful. ;)

While I find a lot of women from 30s-40s movies beautiful (Helen Chandler from Dracula (1931) is one the most beautiful women I've ever seen), in a choice between these three I have to go with Naomi Watts.

Not only is she the most attractive of the three, but her character is the most well-rounded I think. All Wray did was scream and Lange was.... well, she was just bad.

Clara Bow was a real doll. Put her in modern clothes and makeup and she'd be a beauty today. She'd just have to lose a few pounds -- by today's standards, she was a bit plump.

And I think Paulette Goddard was adorable in Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936). Of course, she was only 17 then. I hear Chaplin liked ’em young.

None of those Kong babes even hold a candle next to the hotness of Candy Kong.

And who's this Candy Kong when she's at home?

All Wray did was scream and Lange was.... well, she was just bad.
In her film debut in the 1976 Kong, Jessica Lange was roundly ridiculed by the critics -- one dubbed her a “former and future model.” But her performance does qualify as acting, even if it's pretty much on a single note. In any case, she got better.

As for my favorite Kong babe, it's a tossup between Naomi Watts and Fay Wray, but I'll go with Fay. Even with the artificial-looking makeup and the outdated acting style, she just seemed so innocently beautiful. And she looked so fetching when she was tied up.

(Okay, so I'm a pervert!)

Fay Wray. The question doesn't even bear thinking about. :rommie:

I never really cared for Jessica Lange. Naomi Watts is very pretty, but Fay Wray is Fay Wray.

Watts. Wray isn't really an option for me, and while Lange was quite attractive in '76, it's Watts that really has the whole package as top Kong babe.
