I do quite a lot of exercise, since I had the ACL in my right knee replaced I have to keep it very limber.

I run 2 or 3 times a week and do a general workout of about an hour every day including rowing and lots of stretching, but I have to be careful because I have no cartilage left, so I try to strike a balance between keeping the knee used to being shocked and keeping the muscles strong to avoid another injury, but also try not to wear it out completely before I get too old.

Six days a week in the gym: Strength Training Sun Tue Thur, alternating upper and lower body. 20 minutes of aerobics MWF. Watching myself transform almost daily. There's a lot of power and momentum in daily driving towards a goal.

Trained in Aikido for seven years. Stopped just short of moving to Japan. They used to call me Über-Uke :)

Now I'm actually going from fat guy to fitness trainer. Nearly there, too. Believe me now and hear me later, girlyman!

Why do they call you that? Does it mean what I think it means? According to my limited knowledge of japanese from animes, "uke" means the bottom in a gay relationship.

Something wrong with google?

The martial training consists of a thrower, nage, and an attacker, uke.

But you're right to gauge ancient Japanese culture according to its cartoons.

I do a fair bit of hiking in the Blue Hills when the weather is good; also long walks around my neighborhood. I don't have much to do exercise-wise in the Winter, though....

Don't try to learn a martial art from anime/hentai.

"Uke" in Aikido means the guy who initiates the attack and gets thrown. Taking the fall is an art in itself, and getting thrown dozens of time each class can be pretty hard on you if you don't do it correctly.

I walk to/from work five days per week (a mile each way), swim for a mile or so each week and have a set programme of stretching exercises to keep my back loose. I also umpire in the local cricket league during the summer, which involves covering a fair bit of ground.....

I guess having a paper route counts as exercise, right? :)

Don't know how far I travel, but it takes me between an hour and an hour and a half, and I do it six days a week.

I'm pretty limited in how and where I can workout, but I think I do a pretty good job making due. In recent weeks I've stepped up my workouts and have been trying to be more consistent.

My daily workout includes 50 minutes of walking the stairs in my apartment building (with 5 sets of 20 pushups every 10 minutes), I do about 3 to 5 sets of standing press with 40 lb. dumbbells (10 reps), 3 to 5 sets of dips (10 reps), 3 to 5 sets of cross bench pullovers with a 60 lb. dumbbell (20 reps) and 3 to 5 sets of french press with a 60 lb. dumbbell (20 reps). I also throw in some crunches and stuff too.

Right now I'm at just below 225 lb. at about 21% body fat, but I'm aiming for getting under 210 lb. (at about 15% body fat). I think I can hit that by February or so... if I stay pretty consistent.

I ideally like to have some physical activity every day whether it's taking the puppy for a long walk, working out at the gym, biking, skiing, pilates, etc. I prefer to be outside but will workout inside if time and/or weather make it more convenient.

By the way, how's everyone who exercises gearing up for the winter? Did you take a gym membership or are you determined to stay outdoors?

I only work out indoors, so I'm used to it. Treadmill, yoga, and pilates. Works year round!

Well, thanks to illness I've barely been to the gym during December.

However, my general weekly schedule crammed around work involves:

4 strength training sessions a week (about an hour to 75 mins long)
A 90 minute yoga session
3 hours of boxing
1 half marathon (ok, usually once every other week)

Usually two of the boxing sessions are on the same day as two of the training sessions, one at either end of the working shift. The final boxing session is before my yoga session.

I'm attempting to get my muscle mass up a little (I only weight 75 kilos) and reduce down my body fat to the 8% mark.

They didn't do a micro-fracture procedure to encourage fibrocartilage growth?

Glad to hear the surgery was successful. Had my second one in July 08 and it feels 100% better. I'm back to playing hockey regularly, running through the yard with the kids.

Thinking about taking up yoga in the new year for some additional flexibility.

I walk the dog twice a day, but I don't really count that as exercise. I'm taking classes in dance, so I've been practising that for about 30 minutes most days, and class is 90 minutes. Made a big difference to my shape! :)

I used to exercise a few times a week. Been slacking off since the weather got cold....

I try to make it to the gym 3 to 5 times a week. MY goal is to get back into some yoga classes. I've always lacked in the area of flexibility, and getting older isn't helping that out any.

I do all this so I can keep up with my 5 and 8 year old, and we can do our winter and summer skiing activities.

That's cool. I'm a very good uke, too. I'm very light-weight and I have a very good falling technique, so everyone always want to partner with me with practicing.
I've been practicing jujutsu for about eight years, on 2-3 times a week schedule. Unfortunately, in the last 2 years I had to move for my PhD course, and I haven't find a (good) gym that practice the same style I do, so I try to cram a couple of session of training when I'm home for the weekend, and I don't always succeed. Damn, now I want to practice.
I try to run an hour about once a week in the spring-summer, but during winter I really can't get myself to run in the frigging cold. I used to do some muscle training, but it gave me problems with flexibility, so I stopped.

I used to work out 1.5 hours a day and was at 6% body fat during my University days. Now, two years later, my desk job made me gain 30lbs of blubber! I found that although I was exercising 5 nights a week after work, I would be ravenous and eat like a pig at 9 or 10pm. So now I've changed my routine to where I work out and do a 20 minute fast-paced run mon/tues/thurs/fri and I also play 2 hours of ice hockey on Friday nights. In addition, I try and get in hikes during weekends in the summer time.

Real life really throws you for a loop! My hope is that by the time we start having kids in a couple of years, we can be setup with exercise equipment at home, so on days I can't make it to the gym, that I can get a good workout in at home.

I've been walking the dog daily. When I still had my apartment, I used to walk him 2 to 3.5 miles a day at the least. Last year, when my life wasn't so crazy, I used to go to either the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath or Sugarloaf Mountain outside DC every weekend. I did that less frequently this year. I also do workouts in the house.
