"Full Circle" isn't even out yet, and her death supposedly occurs halfway through. Many VOY-only readers are still in blissful ignorance. Leave her dead for at least a few Relaunch instalments so we can actually see how the crew reacts, then bring her back from the Q when the storyline needs her back.

Which is no doubt what was intended all along (at least, Paula Block requested the Q Continuum stop-gap) - until people began stamping their feet so hard that I can see the editor leaving Janeway dead just to make a point!

Currently running 18 Definitely Yes and 19 Definitely No. Marco always said he liked it when ST novels polarised fan opinion. You can't get any more polarized than this!

I fully realise that. I thoroughly enjoyed that book. But the TrekBBSers over at the Voyager page like to remind us that there are a great many VOY fans (both on TrekBBS and those who don't frequent the Internet), who only read VOY fiction, so they remain blissfully unaware.

As a TOS fan, I was really pissed off when they killed Kirk in "Generations".

I'd like to see the reactions of the Picard- and Siskofans if they offed their precious captains; they would probably react exactly the same way as the Janewayfans.
The fact Janeway is winning all the "best captain" polls in General Trek must also be an indication it was a mistake.
And to clarify : no, I'm not especially a Janewayfan, but that character doesn't deserve to die.
If authors can only write a good story when it involves the death of a main character, then obviously they need to work on their imagination and creativity.

It was a really gutsy move by Pocket Books that only increases the dramatic potential of the books, shows that now anything is possible within them and (almost) no story is off-limits. And this dramatic potential is already being realised if the amazon excerpt from "Full Circle" is anything to go by.

Shatner himself killed off Kirk - again - at the end of "The Return". So he could revive him again in "Avenger"!

If authors can only write a good story when it involves the death of a main character, then obviously they need to work on their imagination and creativity.

Ummm...no. The Picard and Sisko fans have proven to be adults and don't act like petulant children when something happens to their fictional characters. As had been pointed out before, Sisko had essentially been dead for most of the DS9 relaunch. Even after his returned he did not play a big role in the story.

Janeway fans seem to lack the emotional maturity necessary to let go of fictional characters. Its just bizzare.

Actually I 'm sure that that is exactly what they mean. In some sense it explains why they are Voyager fans to begin with. They abhor change and get angry when a story does not revert to the status quo in the end. That was the essence of Voyager....everything would be exactly the same in the end as it was in the begining. This is what was wrong with Voyager from the very begining.

Besides, as far as I know, a permanent death has not happened to either one yet, so that's rather easy to say.

There's hardly any main characters left in the so-called Voyager relaunch so I would suggest that they change the name of the book series and the ship as well.

And I don't think it was a "ballsy move". It was a stupid mistake.

Once again I have to state that if some readers want a "dark Trek", then PocketBooks can come up with a new book series with new characters who can be killed of at random to create the "drama" some readers want.

But don't destroy our favorites from the TV series!

I still think that killing Janeway was a bad idea but I am not in favour of bringing her back. My opinion is, if you really want to bring a dead character back there has to be a very good reason for it and especially a very good way to accomplish this. Janeway`s body was completely destroyed and there is no room for maneuvering as it was possible with Trip in Enterprise.

I can understand that Janeway`s death is upsetting for her fans but her character is really not that important for the flow of history that there would be a good reason to bring her back from the dead. And I most definitely don`t want to read that Q snaps his fingers and puts her back into a body.

i dont think very many fans ever believed sisko was really dead.

PocketBooks can come up with a new book series with new characters who can be killed of at random to create the "drama" some readers want.

Yes, the series are called "New Frontier", "Corps of Engineers" and "Vanguard" - and all have lost major characters.

But I can see many VOY fans getting very hot under the collar if they were told that never ever will any regular character from VOY come to permanent harm in a novel, and that their beloved captain/admiral had such a charmed life, immune to any danger that threatened her mortality, that she was not going to die.
