Police Squad! reboot

But can you picture him as Frank Drebin? I think it could have worked at one time ;)

If they eventually want to go with a younger Frank Drebin, I think Colin Mochrie could work. Could actually be the perfect vehicle for him to get more work done outside Canada.

Edit: I'm trying to think of serious actors who could play Frank Drebin. Could you imagine if someone who only does intense drama like Daniel Day Lewis doing something like this? I think i'd be interesting (if he'd even think of "slumming" it and doing comedy  )

Clive Owen?

How about Sean Penn? At this point in his career, Spicoli is an anomaly.

You don't think it could? You really haven't seen much of anything outside Whose Line then. He's a pretty good dramatic actor, and does some fantastic deadpan.

Oh, I have no doubt he could do a great Frank Drebin. But I thought you were joking when you suggested him as a younger Frank Drebin. ;)

Ohh, I see. Yeah, he's technically not that young, but I still think he has young-ish looks and so could pose for someone younger.

They should get Shatner for the George Kennedy role. Deion Sanders for the Norborg role.

Another movie people don't know was done by ZAZ is Ruthless People. The movie is, at points zanny, but a more typical comedy with only a handful of sight gags throughout the whole movie, than the handfuls you'd get every minute in Airplane! and Top Secret!.

Enjoyed that too when I last saw it - though that was longer ago than I'd prefer to remember:)

Love Magnum, etc., but Selleck always has that twinkle in his eye and a certain laconic delivery wherein I don't think it would work at all.

I dunno, that may have been true in the past, but have you seen some of his recent work on Blue Bloods? In some ways, Leslie Neilsen was also a bit laconic. Selleck's also done a bunch of comedies before and those turned out alright. Coming from Blue Bloods to something like Police Squad would be quite the contrast that could make it work.

Remembering his work on the short-lived "Dragnet" remake (produced by L&O's Dick Wolf IIRC), I think Ed O'Neill could pull it off.

Unlike most of you, I want to see this reboot go forward, or the simple reason being that Liam Neeson should be in a comedy, and this IP would play off of his strengths as a serious actor who can also do comedic roles, much like what happened with Nielsen. Have an open mind about this reboot rather than a closed one.

Why should we trust anyone other than the Zuckers with a Police Squad! reboot? Who but them could possibly understand?

When you start trusting non-Zuckers to take over for them...you get stuff like Airplane II.

I thought Airplane II was funny, and had as many great lines (and jokes) as the original one did (I especially loved the 'She's beginning to crack up' scene.)
