In the lobby of our office building, the security desk has a box that folks can drop money into for this cause. While I don't know exactly how much I've given, it's probably around $50 or so. I made about four or five "drops" into the box so far. Usually I give them $10 a shot, so that's where my estimate comes from.

I wish I could offer you an answer, but the best way for you to be sure would be to check with Amazon itself.

I do know that many reputable charities (the American Red Cross, for example), accept checks by mail! :)
 
OK, just got word from a friend who works in a large supermarket. They've had buckets at the ends of their tills for the relief efforts, and they've raised a total of £3 Million! So congratulations to Gary and his workmates for that. :)
 
That's excellent news! :)

I've decided that one way to prevent the figure from becoming unduly duplicative is to list only the contributions in which TrekBBS Members have directly participated. Therefore, I wish to honor the contribution of your friend and his workplace with this message in lieu of inclusion of the sum in the main total.

Generosity lives on! :)
 
I am totally struck by the generosity of the various members of TrekBBS. It's amazing how people have come through in a disaster of this nature.

Because the month-anniversary of the tsuanmi was yesterday (Jan. 26), I feel (with Enterpriser's consent) it's appropriate to unpin the thread at this point especially with much of the original outpouring of support having subsided.

If you're still interested in contributing to tsunami I encourage you do so. This thread will be kept from pruning because of the memorable contributions.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and to Enterpriser for organizing this thread.
