Playstation II Issue: Thumb Drives

Plecostomus

Commodore
Awhile back I played a game called Naval Ops Warship Gunner II. Once I beat the game I used Codebreaker to move everything to a thumb-drive.

Over the years when I'm in the mood to thrash poorly rendered naval ships with lasers I would put the game in, use Codebreaker to copy everything off the thumb-drive back onto the mem-card and away I would go.

My big black PS2 finally died, it was an Original and I played the hell out of it. I replaced it with a silver slim PS2 and when I went to use codebreaker to copy off the thumb-drive I find the PS2 is not recognizing anything in the USB ports.

I tried booting Codebreaker with the thumbdrive in the port, that just causes a hangup on boot.

Only thing I can think of is they moved the port addresses and my old Codebreaker Ten disk just isn't seeing the port. Makes no sense to me.

Any one else have this problem or know anything about it?

I have asked mr trampledamage, and he can't think of anything in particular that could have caused the problem, although he did say that Sony aren't above putting in specific restrictions to stop "questionable" software from running on newer versions of the machine.

So depending on who makes codebreaker, and how much it circumvents how Sony likes to do things, they may well have shut the door on it.

Please pass along my thanks to Mr. Trampledmage. This is the conclusion we came to after trying several other iterations of PS2. All the "current" ones seem to have their ports blocked to programs like Codebreaker and Gameshark.

Yeah - pissed him off no end, he ran region X (I forget what that does, something useful!) on his old PS2 and ended up just giving it away when he got the new one because Sony blocked it from running.
