Playstation 3....Slim?

Well if we are gonig by that then I guess we are up to the Playstation 543894378634634768434367324673478453897874, considering how shity the PS2 was built.

Hmm, the PS2 was "shitty" but yet it's the most successful console ever. The Xbox 360 has had a number of technical/hardware issues and its' the most successful of the next generation consoles (Wii doesn't count as "next gen" ). So I guess the moral of the story is "Build a shitty console and it will sell well?"

If 50% of the 100 million people who bought a PS2 had to buy 2-3-4 of them than that would increase the sale numbers!

Except that didn't happen.

Yeah I can't understand the logic of the redesign. I told a friend that it seems like Sony would have been better served to have taken the R&D dollars spent on the redesign and put that towards a significant price reduction (even it was just temporary.). Likewise with the dollars spent on the development of "Home." What a joke.

If it's anything like the PSX/PS2 redesigns it'll reduce manufacturing costs, giving Sony more room to make price cuts in future.

I haven't seen the pictures -- what are the supposed dimensions of the PS3 "Slim" model? The Cell and the nVidia NSX chip both run hotter than hell, and much of the size of the original PS3 casing was for airflow for both chips, so I'm curious as to just how drastically Sony could reduce the casing size without resulting in its own RRoD equivalent.

Oh and my PS2 never failed either. I honestly, sincerely wish I could say the same for the 360 but I can't.
Consider yourself lucky ;) my PS2 failed on me a few times. I eventually hit my third PS2 but have since moved onto the PS3

I guess I was another one of the lucky ones. I only had to get a second PS2 because the first didn't survive a six foot fall to the floor. And they both lasted for years. The second one worked perfectly when I traded it toward a PS3.

I will say, though, that... visually... shattering electronics are pretty frickin' cool.

I loved my PS2s. Neither of them ever failed me. The only reason I even had to buy two was because my first one was stolen. :scream:

I've had my 360 for over a year now and it hasn't failed me, either.
