Playstation 3....Slim?

Why are photos of Bigfoot, UFOs, Aliens, and mystical rumored tech releases always so bloody grainy? It's not that hard to take a reasonably sharp, in-focus picture, you know. :p

Having said that, a refresh of the hardware wouldn't totally surprise me. And poor quality aside the photos do look pretty convincing (and the form factor looks awesome). But I just bought a PS3 "fat", as it were, and I'd be utterly uninterested in this if the only change they've made is the form factor. The PS3 hardware is fantastic and so far unmatched, so I'm not sure why they'd be planning on an update on the hardware end.

Recall, though, that there were some photoshopped photos of an "XB 360 Slim" going around a few months ago, and MS also did what they could to squash them - even though they have no intention whatsoever of releasing a form factor update (as far as we know).

Looks good. Of course as with the slim PS2 most of the space savings have likely been achieved by moving to an external power supply.

They should just call it Playstation 4 as the PS3 is already dead.

Technically, I'm on the Xbox 1080 since I've lost two systems already. ;)

Well if we are gonig by that then I guess we are up to the Playstation 543894378634634768434367324673478453897874, considering how shity the PS2 was built.

Hmm, the PS2 was "shitty" but yet it's the most successful console ever. The Xbox 360 has had a number of technical/hardware issues and its' the most successful of the next generation consoles (Wii doesn't count as "next gen" ). So I guess the moral of the story is "Build a shitty console and it will sell well?"

In related news, the mystery of exactly how Sony managed to sell several billion times as many consoles as there exist people on this planet remains unsolved despite the attentions of the world's foremost experts in creative accounting. Some physicists have theorised that the so-called "dark matter" critical to various cosmological theories may in fact consist almost entirely of Playstation 2s. Ken Kutaragi was not immediately available for comment.

If 50% of the 100 million people who bought a PS2 had to buy 2-3-4 of them than that would increase the sale numbers!

Take out the word "PS2" and insert "Xbox 360" and you may be on to something.

I bought a PS2 in December 2001. I still have it, and it still works as well as it did the day I bought it.
I bought a 360 in October 2007. I had to buy another one 5 months ago.

You do the math.

BTW bigdaddy, I'm just messing with you. I honestly don't care one way or the other. I own both a 360 and a PS3, and probably play them both equally. So I'm not really a fanboy of either system. I do know I've gone through a couple of 360's, but my PS3 has never failed. I can probably count the number of times it's locked up on me on one hand and I've had one since not long after launch. The 360, well it works, but certainly not as flawlessly.

But I honestly don't care if people are thinking the PS3 failing. It either will or it won't. It may go the way of Dreamcast. But until that happens, I'm going to enjoy it and it's still the best blu-ray player on the market.

Oh and my PS2 never failed either. I honestly, sincerely wish I could say the same for the 360 but I can't.

The fact that a cease and desist order was issued to take the pictures down from Joystiq I think is a fairly good sign that we may see a slim announced at E3.

Would be a smart move since they are still struggling to sell them.

Yeah I can't understand the logic of the redesign. I told a friend that it seems like Sony would have been better served to have taken the R&D dollars spent on the redesign and put that towards a significant price reduction (even it was just temporary.). Likewise with the dollars spent on the development of "Home." What a joke.

It's weird because it wasn't a Sony lawyer that C&Ded Kotaku... and Sony has actually denied the rumour rather than use the "rumours and speculation" line.
