Playmates Toys

I had preordered the Hiya Kelvin Kirk figure only to have it cancelled by Amazon — today they cancelled my preorder for the Hiya SNW Pike, I guess I won’t bother to preorder anymore of these guys from Amazon.

I never bothered with trying to find Kelvin Kirk elsewhere, may just forget about Pike as well.

I never had Quark on my list, but he was nicer in person, and comes not only with another Nagus staff (like Zek also had), but also with a Gilvo!

And they also had the magnificent WoK Saavik! The likeness, the accuracy, not only of the face, but also the costume, makes this one of their best figures!

Looks like the MR action figures have been delayed AGAIN. Mariner/Worf have been changed to July ‘26, Picard/Spock to June ‘26 and Riker/Boims to August ‘26.

The big nice e-mail I received from them in December said Mariner was supposed to ship…next week.

I emailed them to see what the deal is fwiw. The Nacelle delay is/was a pain in the ass but at least they mostly kept us updated. I’ll probably never pre-order from MR again.

Did they give a reason on canceling the Pike? You may have lucked out on Kirk though (ymmv) the likeness is horrible.

“lack of availability” - which is I think the same thing they said when they cancelled Kelvin Kirk. I definitely ordered Pike the day he became available (Kirk I think i preordered weeks after he became available, so I wasn’t that surprised when it was cancelled).

Someone sold a Playmates toy that was actually used in Way of the Warrior - it was painted by the props dept. Looked really cool.

Do you have a link? They used a lot of the Playmates toys and AMT/Ertl model kits in DS9, before the switch to CGI.

They used the generic Borg figure from the “First Contact” line in Scorpion pt1.

and MR confirmed more delays but didn’t say why. What a cluster fuck.

And apparently the Tom & B'Elanna figures on the wedding cake were PM figures.
I've heard they also used PM figures for miniature stuff on DS9, but never found out where.

Just a few days left on this now, looks like a great project... :bolian:

Hey everyone! I hope you won't mind me popping in here to give a few more details about the To Boldly Go Figure book mentioned up thread. I understand links to fundraisers aren't allowed, but I'm sure you can work out where to find us!

We produced a book last year covering the Doctor Who action figures from Character Options, and we've just launched the Kickstarter for the next volume, taking in the Playmates 4.5" figures (both the original 1990s ones and the short-lived recent revival). Brand new high resolution photography for every figure, variants, playsets, shuttle craft... it's a beautiful tome if I say so myself, with newly-written information for every figure. Also an incredibly useful reference for which accessories pair with which figures; if you're anything like me then they've all ended up in the same box over the years...!

We've been working away on this for the last eight months, and it's very much a "by the fans, for the fans" project. We're especially thrilled to have tracked down all the rarest figures (most of which, to be fair, were already in the collection of our editor), and we've managed to get shots both in and out of packaging for a number of figures. We're also in discussions with fans about including some prototype figures, as those went down very well in the Doctor Who edition.

As I say, I hope you won't mind my popping in to share this with you all - I hope you'll check it out, we're currently 25% funded with just over three weeks to go, so all to play for! There's various cover options available at different levels, including some bespoke 1-of-1 covers, for a truly unique edition (and mostly because I was determined to get an Andorian on a cover somewhere).
