PLATO'S STEPCHILDREN: Underrated great episode

You lads aren't crazy, I recently read a long article wondering about the humiliation culture we live in. from torturing people in Gulags to movies with torture porn to people humiliating themselves just to be on TV. What ever happened to human dignity? Apparently, that's not a value the television is selling?

It may seem that way, but most people in the US would tell Fear Factor's Joe Rogan to go fuck himself when pesented with a plate of squid balls. The fake model/actresses would suck a dead man's dick to get on TV, but most humans would not.

Joe, factored

What I find alarming is that people sit and WATCH this stuff. It's now entertainment to watch people humiliate and debase themselves. I don't watch TV at home, but I caught a couple of episodes of Fear Factor at a friend's house and I was appalled. It made me think of the "game shows" in Stephen Kings "The Running Man".

What I find disturbing is how many people slam these types of shows, but if pressed they admit "occasionally" watching them as a guilty pleasure.

I have enough interesting things to occupy me such that if I think something is crap after one sampling then I make a point of NEVER watching it again under any circumstances. I've gotten up and left the room rather than join others who choose to watch this shit.

I'm split on this one. It has its good and bad. The story concept is very good but the Shatner horse impression is a little much. Spock's singing is a nice touch...

So a sadist humiliating our heroes is supposed to be now considered 'great' because it's a lesson in 'power corupts' ???

And the nonsense 'god in the machine' ending that we're supposed to immediately forget like the 'hyperspeed serum' from Wink of an Eye??

True. I didn't make it through the entire episode either time (I was talking with my friend while her hubby was watching it). Didn't mind the stunts too much, knowing that they'd have safety precautions up the wazoo and it was unlikely that anyone would actually get hurt, but as soon as people started eating bugs or swimming through sewage I was out of there. :wtf:

Heaven forbid that they actually show someone being sadistic rather than just saying he is.

"Plato's Stepchildren" is SO hot. OMG - Christine and Uhura all sexed up and starting to get it on with Spock and Kirk?

Check out the screencaps: http://tos.trekcore.com and http://startrek.crystalfires.net

I wish there were an uncensored version of this ep.

My sexy theory is Parmen breaks into Spock's mind when he's on the couch with Christine; after trying and failing at telekinesis Parmen forces his eyes open and his mouth to say the line "I haven't the power... I am deeply sorry... I have failed you" (Parmen teasing Christine)... I think that's when Parmen makes Spock feel lust for her.

Me, I don't need Parmen.

Cupid's arrow and loving in the breathless excitement of night indeed.
