Plantar Fascitis

Gil T.Azell

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
it appears I have this Plantar Fasciitis and other than Orthotics which I am going to get, my work medical covers 80% is there any relief from the pain?
I may also have hear spurs.
I've had high foot arches all my life.

Back in the day... when I marched in the UW Band, when we'd get to use the stadium for our Bowl game prep, the constant marching of that style on astroturf would inflame some Plantar Fasciitis in my feet. A lived on a goodly dose of Ibuprofen every night for the month of December.

Dealing with this, myself, at the moment. My doc said ibuprofen and recommended using a frozen water bottle to roll under your foot (especially the arch and heel). Also, he said orthotics would help a great deal (I haven't done anything about that yet) and not to walk anywhere barefoot, not even to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Good luck ... to us both. :bolian:

You might want to invest in some Vibram 5 finger shoes. I got some a couple of months ago and used to wear them all the time. My PF cleared up because my arch got strong because it was doing all the work.

Over the past few weeks I've worn different shoes and my PF has flared up again.

I will second this.

I have a pair of their Bikilas and LOVE them. They're the most comfortable, uh, shoe that I've ever worn.

I've been eyeing them but I don't need them and I wasn't even sure if they're comfortable. Want!

You want. You really want.

I love them. Probably to a point that is unhealthy.

I've worn mine everywhere, including right into Lake Michigan.

They make using the Wii Fit and Wii Active programs easier because they grip on my hardwood floor (and they grip nice for push-ups).

And they're damn comfortable. I walked the entire day around Navy Pier with them on last Friday. Unfortunately, I wore other shoes the next day and it made my calves hurt.

You want them. You need them. And if there's anything goofy with your feet, they'll slowly fix it. I have a toe that has gotten straighter.

Now you're making me homesick in addition to wanting the shoes! Have you ever worked out in them? Running or anything? Pavement, grass, are there any places where it's uncomfortable?

So your feet are becoming Nazis?

;)

Is this the new "en vouge" ailment to have? I hear commercials for it all of the time anymore.

I've had PF; I have lower arches. It would come and go; x-rays showed fan-tas-tic heel spurs. Mine was from muscles which are always tight. Steroid shot in one heel was very painful.

These vibram shoes, do they work for people who have short toes which are really close together? What I've seen, the material for the toes is more than the space I have there. Anybody run into this but have no problems?

I've never done any serious running in them, but so far the walking and occasional jogging I do in them has been fine. No problems with any surface really. The whole idea is to simulate being barefoot while giving your foot protection.

As for toes, my pinky toes are really short and bunched next to the rest of my toes. It is a bit of a challenge to horn them into their own slot in the shoe, but once they're in, there's no discomfort at all.

I've run in them. You have just as much protection as with regular shoes and I've never felt any more discomfort than I do in normal shoes.

Your feet sort of learn how to be in the shoes, regardless of toe size.

I had this once. Man is it painful!

:scream:

I got some inserts for my shoes, and some stretching exersizes, and it's all good now.

I've seen a few of the personal trainers at my gym wearing them and have been very curious about what it's like to wear them. I'm always barefoot when I can be so I suspect I would like them.
