Planet of the Dead info

"Stattenheim," I think (the Second Doctor has one, and the Sixth says he's always wanted one of those).

Wait...if the 2nd Doctor had one...then how can the 6th have always wanted one? He had one when he was him...er...right?

Depends on what he means by "always"--it could be that Six was specifically referring to his current incarnation wanting one.

He might also have lost the memory as part of his forced regeneration into Three.

the title "Planet of the Dead" sounds like a classic series episode to me

*looks on epguides*

The Dead Planet
Planet of the Daleks
Planet of the Spiders
Planet of Evil
Planet of Fire
Planet of the Giants

looking at that, im only surprised that title hasnt been used before

Heh. Next time someone tries to say DW is supposed to be a "serious, adult science fiction show", I'm just going to point them towards the episode titles.

I think it says it all right there. lol

Who even says that?

Mind you, it does a better job of being a "serious, adult science fiction show" than most supposed "serious, adult science fiction shows" I know of without even trying.

Just put The Unicorn and the Wasp next to Midnight and tell me it can't be anything it wants to be.

The sort of people who get seriously bent out of shape about "low" humor and science fantasy plotting and the like- in other words, people who are so embarrassed by what Doctor Who actually is that they've constructed an alternate version of it with which every produced version of the show conflicts.

Oh, like 50% of Outpost Gallifrey. Gotcha.

Actually, come to think of it I remember reading some post in here a few years back, where someone said "there are two Doctor Who series, the one that got televised and the one that exists in the minds of a certain subset of fanboys". Words to that effect anyway.

It was probably someone quoting Andrew Rilstone's review of the First Doctor Box Set VHS. Unfortunately, the full review has disappeared from the Internet, but the relevant bit is still available:
There are, in fact, two different programmes called Doctor Who: 'Doctor Who One' was a rather serious, magical programme about Time Travel and the wonders of the universe which existed in the collective memory of fans who had grown up with it. 'Doctor Who Two' was the sometimes fun but often silly kids TV show that the BBC had actually transmitted. It consisted, from a very early stage, of quarrelling alien races, hopeless companions, and chases along corridors. ('The Space Museum' involves chases along corridors and practically nothing else.) Naturally, our faith in Doctor Who One can't survive the widespread availability of videos of the original TV episodes.
These days, of course, Rilstone blogs about what embarassing lazy populist trash the new series is.

I had a literature Professor that angrily referred to the works of Charles Dickens as "populist trash." Those exact words.

If so, then Doctor Who is in good company.

I would love to know what he makes of Im a celebrity...

I doubt he owns a television. Radio! Now that's all a person needs. None of that fancy FM either.

:guffaw:is there any chance he has joined any Charles Dickens forums, where he has stated this view, upseting some Charles Dickens fanboys, and then took part in the debate as to which of Dickens books was the best?

Yeah those are the types I was thinking of. I can definitely agree that the "farting aliens", as they love to call them, were too much. But in my mind that's the only time the show got a little TOO silly and childish.

Here's another RTD snippet about "Planet of the Dead" from DWM: "After the events of Journey's End and The Next Doctor I think it's time to get away from the past and have an adventure with lots of new elements. And lots of fun too!

"The next Special should be a nice antidote to Christmas, with a bit of sunshine if we're lucky. And with not one but two alien races that you've never seen before."

That makes it sound a bit... manic, especially since it's co-written by Gareth Roberts. Not my favorite sort of Who, but I'm sure it'll be fun enough anyway.

"Stattenheim," I think (the Second Doctor has one, and the Sixth says he's always wanted one of those).

Well remembered... :techman:

Thankyew! See, I can remember that, but I've forgotten everything I learned in high school... :p

This is my biggest worry. I wasn't exactly a big fan of Shakespeare Code or Unicorn and the Wasp.

And by the same token, I loved both of those episodes, so it's good news for me!
